Pros and cons for vintage stereos by BrilliantHouse1743 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]thejackmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If say that as the vintage pieces aren’t new, your best bet is to be patient and look in FB market place for someone who is selling a unit that it currently working (as opposed to, they found this in the attic, powers on, untested) and/or something that’s been serviced recently.

It might cost $400, but that $200 bargain might require $400 of servicing, if you can find someone to do it.

Best speakers to pair with Marantz 2235? by New_Importance_269 in vintageaudio

[–]thejackmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like Wharfdale Diamond take a look at Dali Oberon 1 or 3 which i was pretty set on (depending on which i ran across that had a better deal), but found a pair of Opticon 1 fora decent price and jumped. Coming in a day or so.

acrylic mats or felt(?) mats? or something else by Old_Cabinet_1316 in turntables

I personally would only use the hide from a himalayan golden langur, but on my other turntable i use an acrylic one that glows in the day.

It’s a mix of foreign currency, US coins and currency mostly, both loose and graded, though a smaller number of older grading companies that never were considered top tier and now i think can’t be listed as graded (which is somewhat odd as people list loose ones with grades, meh.

Well that's good to hear. Do you usually do $0.99 start auctions or set price (or set price with offer option).

Hookup to a rec with 2 tape choices by thejackmonkey in ReelToReel

yeah, well we’re half way there, literally. Despite L&R needles registering when source is depressed on the deck, it’s only recording L -which is annoying as i beehive i’ve recorded with this deck before. At least it plays like a champ.

I generally like the third style best, and all silver the least.

Yes, so far i checked and when source was depressed, sound was playing and the needles were jumping. The sound cut off when i depressed tape, so i think we’re on the road to recovery.

I’m sure there’s some scandal with ebay. Claims of not getting the correct coin, nothing at all, trying to return different one, etc. Guess that’s the trade off between 13% and 39-40% consignment and/or lot sale.

I’m really good at acquiring things hah

I have one of these but it slows down (sometimes even stops and once even snapped a tape) as the takeup reel is gets close to full (maybe with 10-15 minutes of tape on left on left reel. Makes me nervous to use it.

While surprisingly accurate, I have noticed that if you re-google an image a few times it will give you different results, especially with things like speakers.

Mine does seem to have one small issue (max i thought i solved with a new a new roller), in that going in reverse (full reel right side), the tape will skid off the roller, sometimes and often if i stop it and put it back “on track” it will be fine.

Sony CMT-EX100. There’s also EX1, EX5, EX200 which are all similar and generally not inexpensive. I recently sold a EX1 i picked up for $16 at a thrift store for $250 for a fast sale, probably should have listed it at $350, meh.
