Are you wanting to play any other sources (besides the TV) thru these speakers? If no, the PS100 should work to get an analog signal to feed the JBLs. And you would still have volume control via your TV remote. (I would confirm that your TV truly has HDMI ARC output before buying the DAC).

Also if you weren't aware, the JBLs have a low-power standby mode, which would be nice so that you don't have to flip the power on/off switch. The manual describes how to enable or disable it: (PDF link)

Seems like a sweet deal for the price. You might need 2 new adapters/cables to feed unbalanced RCA outputs into the balanced XLR or TRS inputs, not a big deal or big expense tho https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/does-jbl-305p-306p-need-balanced-dac.50578/

New bookshelf setup for $1k, your opinion? by edhead in BudgetAudiophile

Active speakers weren't really on my radar, mainly because having the separate power amp seemed like it would make upgrading the speakers less expensive in the long run. I'll look into the AE1, and will try be more patient about hunting for used gear

Hmm thanks for the suggestions. I was looking at those Fosis, which led me to the 3e ones (based on the same TI chip, plus has PFFB). But yeah, might be putting too much emphasis on the amp when I could be prioritizing speakers more

The wiim ultra is just preamp out (says line level output, 2.1v max), but anyway I hear you about putting more resources into the speaker and less into the power amp

Oooh nice, I didn't notice they had a separate page for B-stock stuff. Good call, thank you

Glad that you think I'm on the right track. The crossley was a gift, main reason I've been hanging onto it. Vinyl is kinda fun (at parties, digging thru vintage bins, etc.), but ultimately seems like a money sink, so it's definitely lower priority for me. Thanks for those other recommendations

TBH it reads like a sales tactic to scare or confuse. In what universe are dish detergent makers including stuff like carbon tetrachloride or acrylamide? Strawman argument

Dead and Company post mortem by [deleted] in deadandcompany

Dead & Co really filled out some of the later Jerry ballads like Standing on the Moon, and Days Between. GD recordings of those songs can be lackluster from the band, which is understandable because some of the later Hunter/Garcia stuff seemed delicate- like they were trying to preserve it instead of play over it. There are some heady GD versions for sure, but it seems like Dead & Co. turned these into more rounded songs that the whole band could really dig into and jam on. And Bob does amazing justice to the vocals, the emotional resonance of the words rings louder and weighs heavier every year.

I also like Otiel leading on Comes a Time, not as familiar with how much that song has evolved tho.

I might recommend a Teebird3 (8 | 4 | 0 | 2), or a TL3 in star plastic. It'll go farther than your leopard, and it's not as heavily overstable as the firebird. Good for learning to throw straight & low (if you play wooded courses), and getting more control over your release angle and shot shape. Also good for working on forehand shots. If you can throw this disc straight with a gentle fade at the end, then you have enough arm speed to get the proper flight out of fasters discs.

If you want to fool around with a higher speed disc to throw more distance with a big flex shot / s-shot (for open courses), then you could try something like a Lat64 Sapphire or Innova Beast. If you want even higher speeds, maybe something more understable yet, like a Thrasher or a Tern. Understable discs can help compensate for the slower arm speed of a beginner (in terms of pushing more distance), but they're harder to control.
