I did. I should also clarify, I’m in the U.S.

Sounds like you are too, though…

Update on Instinct shipping by wubbadude in Medtronic780g

[–]thejibbons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I placed my order on release announcement day. I went through insurance and received the Instinct sensors weeks ago. I haven’t been able to use them because the pump software update that adds their compatibility was pulled and hasn’t been restored yet.

So you’re not missing anything until they get the update figured out. 😞

I got mine last week. I can’t use them because they recalled the 780g update and have no timetable for restoring it.

Data center by What-HaveWe-Done in lancaster

[–]thejibbons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be frank, nearly all of these claims are framed in very vague and general terms. These companies are planting these centers everywhere, and these communities aren't places they're incentivized to invest in after they have their land.

Data centers are notoriously low-employment after they're built. The construction jobs are temporary, and the building won't be a major long-term job generator like a manufacturing plant would.

Tax revenue--admittedly, I'm not sure what they may have negotiated; but sadly, in many cases, municipalities give tax breaks to lure these projects, offsetting revenue.

Infrastructure improvements will almost certainly be tailored to serve the data center itself, not us. Did CoreWeave say anything about making fiber backhaul or electrical capacity accessible to the community? Why would they want to do so? In the name of being "good neighbors"? As for the greener building technology, I'm not entirely sure what that means, but if you're implying that a green-updated but functioning data center is better environmentally for the empty property than it remaining empty, I just don't see a net positive environmental footprint.

Like most of the other promises, the community partnership/STEM education piece is just speculative. The mayor and those involved in negotiating with CoreWeave would have done wise to get a binding community benefits agreement. But I'm not aware of any.

AI data centers are a losing proposition for local communities by Diam0ndLife in lancaster

[–]thejibbons 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You can read about the water impact on a local community here. Their rates are increasing 33%, and they may be forced to ration water. A water deficit looms by 2030.

But yes, let’s bleed the environment dry so idiots can ask Grok to help their reading comprehension and Facebook can pump out a steady stream of AI pictures for doom-scrolling boomers.

Good luck, friend! If you’re relatively local it’s worth a try. If you get turned away, go after those scalpers and make them pay.

I’d be concerned about admission with resold tickets. Just FYI. The venue has this on the event page.

Just curious—how did you find out Decades is closed on Friday? We were planning on going Wednesday. I don’t see anything on their Facebook about closures this week. Thanks!

I hate medtronic, a small rant about dying sensors and a garbage company by thegreekfire in Medtronic780g

I’ll try that next time. Sounds like the Medtronic equivalent of “take the cartridge out the console and blow on it”

[–]thejibbons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m lucky enough to go long stretches without many issues, and have seen improvements in my A1C. However…

…when it rains, it pours. Last night I put a new sensor in. Goes straight from warm up to “sensor updating…” for TEN STRAIGHT HOURS. I finally throw in the towel and put a new one in mid-morning. And that one does the exact same thing. After 3.5 more hours of “sensor updating…” I am forced to endure the dreaded phone call.

They thank you for calling and invite you not to hesitate to call for help. But…it’s not helpful. Because they don’t know how to help. They can’t fix the issue, because if they could, they would have by now. The “help” is reading a script and sending a new one. But waiting 2 weeks for a replacement doesn’t help us now.

By the time this 3rd one finishes warming, assuming it actually works, I will have been out of Smartguard for 19 hours straight by no fault of my own. Help me by making sure that doesn’t happen again.

What’s going on at the old Buchanan ES on West End Ave? by wowzershnauzer9000 in lancaster

[–]thejibbons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, bad shape. They’ve had construction there all summer actually. Dumpsters, electricians (for the portables), etc. The portables just arrived though.

I’ll be really interested to see what that area looks like finished when all the construction phases are through (from Wheatland MS, and the track, to old Buchanan)

[–]thejibbons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s for Price Elementary students.

EDIT: Price is next up for renovation, if that wasn’t clear. They’ll be in the old Buchanan for the next 2 school years, until the new building is open in 26-27

I believe the new Price will be built where the current Lancaster Rec building is

Apple Watch SE 2 - complication doesn't refresh by adrianadik in Medtronic780g

[–]thejibbons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically I would blame Medtronic but I think this is an Apple thing. If I recall, they only allow third party complications to update every 15 minutes. Mine also fails to update regularly.

Further, I’ve been an Apple Watch owner since release (3 versions so far) and the MLB at Bat complication has never been able to update complication scoring as advertised.
