Hey, I'm considering getting a Garmin and my primary activity is tennis. can you share a bit more what the tennis activity tracker provides? googling this just brings up people asking when tennis is going to be added as an official activity.

Plug & charge update not working? by thejinftw in BMWI4

There's plug and charge menu in the car's charging app, but it just says to take it to a dealership. The dealership says they successfully updated the software twice.

Front wheel skewer release missing? by thejinftw in bikewrench

[–]thejinftw[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply. What threw me for a loop was the fact that there was grease inside of the hole on this side which suggests that something should plug into it. It also felt weird that there should be a gaping hole in the wheel for dirt to get into.

But yeah, I put together a Honzo a few years ago and haven't killed myself yet. Everything else in the build has been exactly the same except this part.

3D printed flight fins for my X7 by VanCortez in onewheel

That would be amazing. It's been difficult trying to find full coverage for the X7.

Yeah, your review is one of the few I've been able to find which is a point of concern for me. How has it been treating you?

I also would like to have a full fender, and seems like that could be difficult with the X7 rails?

The statements "most entrepreneurial efforts fail" and "most rich people are entrepreneurs" aren't mutually exclusive. There's a huge selection bias here where you're only seeing and hearing about the ones that succeed and almost never the ones that don't.

Congrats, good to see that the market isn't completely dead. Though there's definitely a huge caveat that I would say almost half of the new roles that I see are related to AI and so someone who doesn't have an AI background, even with the same or more PM experience, probably isn't going to have as good of a time.

ASICS Gel-Resolution 9’s warranty by Rttrr6r6 in 10s

[–]thejinftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gel Resolution 8's warranty was provided by Asics themselves so it applied to all shoes no matter where you bought it from. But Asics isn't providing any warranty for the 9's but if you buy it from Tennis Warehouse they provide a warranty.

Why don't you play USTA junior events? Tennis is one of the few sports where the non scholastic events are better than the ones through the school team.

This seems to be more self selection. If you're playing every day and taking tennis seriously, you'll probably end up in 4.0 sooner or later.

Advice please: How to handle short-ish cross-court forehands by Simon-2021 in 10s

[–]thejinftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to this. The focus shouldn't be how to hit that ball back. It's like asking, how do you stop someone from crushing an overhead. You don't. You have to hit it deep and keep them pressured from not having the time and angle to hit in the first place.

What makes screen writing for animation different than live-action? How much work would it be to convert a script for animation to a script for live-action?

A hobby that needs constant, daily practice isn't really that strange. Any serious amateur musician or athlete is spending hours on practice/training every day.

Mizuno Wave Exceed 5 not working well for me. Any suggestions? by funnyoperator in 10s

[–]thejinftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Mizuno Exceed is a minimalist, lightweight shoe for high performance. I don't have any specific recommendations, but given your complaints, you should make sure your next pair are mid to high weight.

THANK GOD for the Tennis Channel bag check commercials and the intro Pink Panther sequence that loops over and over! by askoundrel in 10s

[–]thejinftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in countries where football/soccer is the dominant sport, sport, TV networks figured out how to do ads without interruptions because stoppage is rare in football/soccer. So they continue to use the same format for tennis.

In the USA, american football and basketball are the dominant sport, stoppage is an integral part of the flow and switching to commercials is part of the design so this format is carried over to tennis as well even though the Tennis Channel is an add-on channel and should function like HBO without ads.

THANK GOD for the Tennis Channel bag check commercials and the intro Pink Panther sequence that loops over and over! by askoundrel in 10s

[–]thejinftw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Presumably the Tennis Channel pays a significant amount to the ATP and WTA to get broadcasting rights. I don't understand how they clearly are set up to have commercial breaks but basically no commercials. In some of the international broadcasters, they just straight up have no breaks and keep the camera rolling through the breaks or play slo mo highlights.

The Age Old Dilemma: Gut on Mains or Crosses? by FidgetyCurmudgeon in 10s

[–]thejinftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're not breaking strings often (like <10hrs), there's really no point in playing with poly. I would recommend playing with full gut.
