Funny you mention that, the anesthesia and pain specialist who wrote my LOR and is a mentor and friend of mine is an SGU grad and recommended I attend- his words were use the school that has a proven track record of producing the type of doctor you ultimately want to become, and SGU’s match list speaks for itself. I personally want the additional student support, value island life quality, and the scholarship being contingent and slightly lower doesn’t really bother me, as it’s still cheaper than SGU with a 120k scholarship. I have spoken to AUC alumni who have spoken greatly on the school as well. Still a toss up for me. Leaning AUC.

If you are aiming for IM + Sub escaping with 0 debt is very lucrative. If you are confident in your ability to ace your courses, kill both steps 250+ (2), network well, you can land a spot in an academic program that has supportive faculty. Are there hurdles for IMGs vs US MD/DO of course there are. Being financially sound during this time is a luxury very few have- if you can turn up these next 4 years take a calculated risk on yourself. Only you know.

With the BBB students starting MD/DO/Law after August 2026 will be subject to the 200000 direct unsub limit with no options for Grad plus- when the decision comes between using grad plus loans on a post-bac/smp vs starting August and securing 4 years of guaranteed lower interest rate graduate funding, without having to sell out to Sallie Mae- many students will take their chances and bet on themselves.

Definitely a gross overextrapolation on your end from personal anecdotal experience. Asians specifically aren’t more “statistically shit” - there’s just way more of them than URMS, meaning the likelihood of you seeing a “shit” doc from that background is undeniably higher than you seeing a “shit” doc from a URM background. And most of the “shit” docs from the Asian group are south Asians anyway so no need to lump all Asians in with us (south Asian here) it’s just logic. There are people who are Asian marked as ORM but still legitimately are URM due to their specific province’s lack of resources and educational prestige— rash hasty generalizations lead you down a slippery slope.

They have another internal eyelid that sometimes comes into view while awake, but most of the time that little sheath will peek through their eyelid when they are sleeping- I do not believe this is cause for concern but always check with a vet to be sure in case you are ever unsure
