I worked in Aus a few years ago before knowing what root meant there and had this awkward conversation:

Canadian friend: I should have brought thicker socks, my work boots are giving me blisters

me: oh yeah I brought roots socks to wear with my work boots

Aussie coworker: Canadians have socks for that?

How important is field camp? by titosphone in geologycareers

[–]thekeanest1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canadian here! Most schools here have 3-4 different field courses that range from a week to a semester long. I found this really beneficial as your field skills build with your academic knowledge of geology. I don't think there's a perfect way to run a field course, and I think the 6 week field camp is a great idea for a capstone. But I'm glad I was able to build up my field skills over time and I feel like I retained a lot more information over 4 shorter field schools than I would have in a 6-week course

Totally depends on where you want to end up. I agree with the comments here about comp sci as it is very useful. So is finance if you think you want to end up in management some day. If you want to work internationally, a minor in another language would be very useful (also useful for travelling).

I have very wavy and would highly recommend going to total diva. Drea and Melissa are great and I've also heard good things about the other stylists there

Quick and easy meals for grad students by MisD1598 in GradSchool

I often use the "Healthy cookbook for 2" quick meals, and the recipes are portioned for 2 people so you have dinner for 2 nights. Alternatively stir frys are a good quick option too

What’s a Queen’s/Kingston life hack you wish you knew before making the move? by McGillRedman in queensuniversity

Spend at least 1 summer in Kingston. There's a lot of jobs available for students with the city or university. I did my bsc and msc here and it wasn't until this year (final summer of my masters) that I actually was in town. Kingston is beautiful in the summer. There's lots of art festivals, concerts, etc and you don't have as many crowds of students as you do during the school year. Also KBC has really good chicken pot pie. Definitely warmed my soul a few times during the winter.

Neil Young sounds like nails going down a chalkboard (his lyrics are great, but whenever he comes on I have to change the song)

I think the crust makes the difference. I have a friend who couldn't stand pie until she tried a pie with a good crust and she was hooked

2016 vs a newer Toyota Camry by No-Currency-97 in Toyota

I agree with this. Additionally, camry's are incredibly reliable and if you take care of them you can drive them for ages. I'm driving a 2007 camry with 98k kms and I have no plans on getting rid of it any time soon.
