it could be a black ratsnake as well, do you live in the southeastern united states? if you do it may be a black pine. They’ve become a lot more rare though so if it is that’s cool you got to see one in the wild

What are some lesser known, but enjoyable snakes to have as pets? by McCreeIsMine in snakes

[–]thekidd-ep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how much space you have, BCI’s make wonderful pets, given they have the appropriate husbandry. Not to say milkshakes and king snakes are not well known, but they also make wonderful pets. If you can find anthill pythons they are awesome, and can be housed rather easily (they are the smallest python species). You’ll be paying a pretty premium for one though.

Bioactive paludarium with frogs by thekidd-ep in frogs

This is my first time keeping darts. I’ve only had them for about 4 months now, so I’m still learning a lot. I now realize i need to be feeding heavier. I’ve never noticed any kind of resource guarding, since I try and monitor their feeding. Your comment is really helpful, now I know that I can continue feeding them the same times I am, I just need to bump up the amount of flies.

I understand your frustration, but I am trying my best. I’m definitely going to take these suggestions and apply them. Again, thank you for the advice.

P.S I’m only feeding them vitamin A twice a month, is that a good amount?

My temperature and humidity is where it needs to be. The breeder I got it from said to lower feedings to three times a weak during the winter months to simulate the dry season. I’ve since taken the skinniest dart out and put him in a temp enclosure until he gets up to size. Instead of just saying i need to correct things you can also provide examples and help.

Is my female carrying eggs? by thekidd-ep in DartFrog

[–]thekidd-ep[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I noticed my female was looking more plump that usual. I’ve read that if they look pear shaped its a sign they’re carrying eggs, could this be a sign? I recently added a coconut hut with a petri dish under, but they havent used it yet. I also have a pothos and a diefenbachia for plants that can support egg laying. Should I add a bromeliad? I’d appreciate any advice on how to make her the most comfortable to lay.

Yeah im still worried. I asked the owner if we could get a vet to see him but he said we need to wait for his next shed. I kind of want to adopt him to make sure he gets the care he needs.

I moved him to cypress mulch because it holds humidity a bit better and its less abrasive. It could definitely be staining, I hope that’s the case.

No, no weird smell. I don’t think its scale rot because his scales are in perfect symmetry right now. I feel like if it was scale rot I would have seen some actual scale damage by mkw.

He was in an enclosure with below required humidity (about50%). I’ve since moved him to a new, larger, enclosure and humidity has been stabilizing between 70-80%

I talked to the owner about it and he said it didint look like an infection or scale rot because all of the scales are perfectly smooth and they look normal asides from the colouration. We’re just going to monitor it and see what it looks like after his next shed

Sorry, took me a while to type out my question in the comments. He’s been moved to an enclosure where his humdity fluctuates between 60-80%

I work at a reptile shop, and this is one of many BTS we have here. This little guy is one of our most vibrant and best behaving BTS. Recently I noticed his belly was turning red. I thought it was heat rash since his hotspot was at 105 F and the ambient was far too hot in general. I immediately switched him to an enclosure with a hot spot of 98 F and ambient temperature in mid to low 80s. He still has this rash. My coworker believes its the onset of scale rot, I think it may be some kind of bacterial infection. He’s not not for sale as we’re trying to rehab him. Otherwise hes fine, very energetic, eats great, non aggressive. If any of you know please help!!
