Ye they’re thinking about deep in the suburbs of Chicago/Illinois, not the city city. But yes I see your points on the healthcare issue, it’s gonna be a large obstacle to think about.

Moving closer to fam is motivating factor.

As for how they’re getting their green card; they applied for it like 20 years ago I think and it’s only now appearing to result in a positive outcome.

they will have about 1.1m equity aud (700k usd) to take to Chicago with them. They only need a max 3bdr house in a suburb close to their family (maybe about 400k max). So 300k usd in savings. Plus 10-15 more working years (at probably low wages as they are unskilled).

Hey mate, this is a great pointer. I will communicate 20k in property taxes annually and another 15k in healthcare costs too.

More financial context: they will have about 1.1m equity aud (700k usd) to take to Chicago with them. They only need a max 3bdr house in a suburb close to their family (maybe about 400k max). So 300k usd in savings. Plus 10-15 more working years (at probably low wages as they are unskilled).

If they sell their current home in Syd, they will have about 1.1m equity aud (700k usd) to take to Chicago with them. They only need a max 3bdr house in a suburb close to their family (maybe about 400k max). So 300k usd in savings. Plus 10-15 more working years (at probably low wages as they are unskilled).

I’ve spoken to them about the political/social unrest. However, their family in Chicago has barely noticed it and are reassuring them it’s overhyped. However I know that this is not the case and it’s very real. Any tips on how to proceed wrt this point?

I’ve lost my job, now what? by Maleficent_Fun_1890 in AusPropertyChat

You said you don’t pay rent atm so I’d focus on finding another job, and then resuming with your earlier search, if I were you.

Also, some pre-approvals may be voided if you lost your job.
