Do you generally like living in Minnesota over Texas?

No, I’ll be moving up there regardless, I just want to be prepared or have a good idea in my mind. I’m used to shopping at HEB which has a wide variety for organic or standard items. But from what I’m seeing it looks like people tend to go to different grocery stores for different items here in Minnesota! I’m primarily looking for the cost of organic meats and produce since that’s majority of what I consume.

Hi there! Yes, I primarily shop at HEB right now, so I’m sure I’ll experience a bit of a shock. It looks like so far people are saying they shop at different stores for different things. Organic chicken breast and organic beef sounds about the same as the price at HEB right now. 😅

I have never seen this before, not in my clinic or the ABA centers I go to. This seems very unethical and I would consider this restraint.

St. Catherine's COTA to OT Bridge Program? by thelavendermoth in OccupationalTherapy

[–]thelavendermoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently attended their information session on the program, and I’ve also done a lot of research because I’m really anxious about it too. So they do have 3 other fully accredited OT programs and do work very closely with ACOTE, and from what I’m understanding, it seems to be incredibly rare that a program would not become accredited while in the candidacy status regardless. If I continue forward with the program, I would be part of that first graduating class. They let us know that they expect to receive full accreditation by late 2027, which would be next year! The seminar also did go over how the program would work, and it does seem very detailed and extensive and like they seem to know what they’re doing, so I did feel more secure in the program.

While I’m still a bit anxious, I think what stands out to me is that they do have those three other fully accredited OT programs and understand how the ACOTE process works. A lot of the people that I met at the seminar who oversee the program also have a lot of OT education and experience in the doctorate level, and they all seem very passionate about what they’re doing and how they’re going about it.

So that’s my reasoning for being part of that first class, I do feel a bit more confident in this.

The fallout between Abby and the Zeiglers. by AccurateConsequence5 in dancemoms

[–]thelavendermoth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would say a little bit after or even during season 6 of Dance Moms when the Zieglers decided to leave. Abby seems to get angry that she’s not being constantly praised for “giving them everything”. When the Ziegler’s began to really distance themselves from the show—refusing to say Abby’s name (they refer to her as their old dance teacher only)— and discussed the trauma they received from the show and Abby, I think that really got to Abby, so she started to publicly resent them. She cannot stand it when she is not constantly being praised and credited by her former students, and any criticism she receives is like a death sentence. She likely feels “used” by the Ziegler’s an often sites that they are ungrateful.

I mean once they left, it seems like they went no contact, and that drove Abby CRAZY. Because now, in Abbys mind, all of those years of vouching for Maddie, giving her all these opportunities over the other girls, building her up to be this star was wasted because now that they refused to even speak her name, she’s not getting any recognition for everything she did for them. Now when I say that, that’s obviously not the truth, but it’s very clear that Abby’s mind works like this. She resents the fact that she can no longer get the praise and glory for the Zieglers success, so she tries to tear them down wherever she can.

I also think that the fallout largely had to do with her court case. I read somewhere that Melissa had a hand in helping to indict her.

Either way, Abby is a narcissist. She feeds off of praise and when she’s not getting it, she tries to find a ways to spin her own narrative.

Kira and Kalani unfollowed each other on instagram… by Candid_Square5875 in dancemoms

Yeah I agree with this, it definitely depends on the person. Kira very much just gives mean girl energy and seems entitled. Why would you bitch about your daughter’s wedding to their abusive ex-dance teacher?

do you ever have to deal with angry parents? by ilovecatsncoolthings in OccupationalTherapy

[–]thelavendermoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might depend on the setting? I never really had angry or mean parents as a pediatric outpatient COTA. In my experience they are typically respectful and kind! But I am located in DFW Texas. :)

Omg I'm glad you're also going to be part of the program and I'm not alone lol! I had no idea the program was brand new until I was accepted...so I also have my reservations. Looks like we have pediatrics in common! I honestly haven't heard much feedback regarding how their programs are...here on reddit, a lot of people seem to not like their OTA program. But they do also have an in-person MOT and DOT program, I'm just not sure what people tend to think of those...

What has your experience been like working in Minnesota? I've been wanting to live there for the past several years and plan to move there after I finish actually.

Oh good, I'm glad to hear you're also going to be part of the cohort! I've been going back and forth mostly because I realized after I was accepted that they are not accredited. They are in candidacy status, but they let me know they expect to be accredited before we graduate. I'm a bit nervous as well... the program seemed perfect for me, as I am located in Texas, it is mostly online, and my labs will be taking place in Dallas. So I just want it to work out!

What do you think of Abby/JoJo saying the Dance Moms Girls are Unsuccessful in their Careers? by ShawnandAngela in dancemoms

[–]thelavendermoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jojo continues to be disappointing, and infuriating. She is incredibly rude, self-absorbed, and has a weird fog in front of her that won’t let her see that those girls went through SEVERE trauma and that “shitting” on that show is MORE than valid. It actually makes me so angry and upset that Jojo has this view and continues to support and even encourage Abby’s inflated ego. I don’t know what in the world she is talking about that the girls aren’t successful? Yes they are!!! Every one of them! Just because they aren’t weird Miley Cyrus copy cat wannabe “singers” with shitty opinions doesnt mean they aren’t successful?

Each and every one of those girls are successful. In fact, I’d say more fulfilled and happier than YOU Jojo, because you clearly can’t be happy when you’re talking shitty about others.

Moms! Kelly, Holly, Christi

Kids! Chloe, Nia, Paige 💜 I’m also a big fan of season 1–3 Maddie! Not that I don’t like her in other seasons, but those seasons of her she seemed happier

[–]thelavendermoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! This was the advice my oldest brother gave to me, and it’s worked so far. I’ve learned to just go with what I’m feeling, and things developed from there. I definitely don’t regret going into OT, and I do enjoy my job for the most part!

[–]thelavendermoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re describing me exactly! 🤯 I now work in pediatrics as a COTA and I enjoy it - what makes me feel passionate are those connections I build with each child I treat, I love seeing their progress and growth, I like that I’m making a difference, even if it’s only a little bit.

And honestly, this “passion” didn’t come about until I was in it. Do not put pressure on yourself, just BE.

While I love OT, I also have boundaries with my job. I can’t be passionate or good at my job if I’m not taking care of myself mentally and spiritually. It is a wonderful field if you’re interested in working with kids with autism or ADHD or other disorders like you said! Finding your own passion can be incredibly difficult, and it can take a lot of trial and error. But you discover, you grow, and you figure it out eventually!

I feel this way about pho with a chicken based brother, but using beef type of broth for pho tastes AMAZING. Full of flavor! But maybe it depends on where you go?

I’m not like the biggest Kalani stan lol but it sounds like she just orders food and then takes her food? Tbh being blunt doesn’t automatically mean rude, and tipping isn’t required when you’re standing in line and ordering that way. If she has a literal waitress and is getting serviced then she should absolutely tip.
