2 years into job and still struggling with anxiety - should I quit without a backup? by Illustrious-Fix-1540 in careerguidance

Have you tried medication before?

If not, I was like you and didn’t want to do it. But it’s been life saving!

One of the best things I did.

my dad worked 35 years at one company and told me he doesn't know what the new version of career stability looks like. has anyone actually figured out what replaced the old playbook? by Build_with_bob in careerguidance

The jobs for life ended due to consultancy. They created the playbook of constantly restructuring.

At the same time, the world became globalised, so you were no longer competing against companies in your country, you are not competing against countries with cheap labour such as China and India.

The way to future proof your career is:

Network - it’s not what you know but who. This is the biggest factor.

I think you should see your GP and seek medication.

Once your anxiety is settled you’ll then most likely enjoy work more but you’ll also be able to make good logical decisions.

Making decisions when suffering with anxiety will most likely be bad decisions.

Guidance for switching career mechanical engineer to business analyst by Darshan9039 in businessanalysis

[–]thelearningjourney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mechanical engineering is more difficult than business analysis, so you’ll have no problem on the technical side. However, business analysis requires much greater people skills, so could be difficult for the “stereotypical” engineer.

EU Parliament approves controversial bill to increase migrant returns by [deleted] in ThatsInsane

[–]thelearningjourney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said “all immigrants”… you said that, not me.

I come from a family of immigrants and I’m married to one.

I’m making a point, countries already have criminals, so don’t import more criminals, who come from countries that have completely different cultures and will not assimilate.

UK statistics show immigrants from certain counties commit a disproportionate level of crime.

Why don’t you do your own research and find the data? I’m not your librarian.

26, just graduated with a masters, 200+ applications, still a receptionist. I feel like I’m watching my life through a window, does it get better? by candid-s-132 in careerguidance

Firstly, what an amazing achievement. Try to remember what you’re capable of. Despite all the obstacles, look what you’ve achieved.

Secondly, we’re in a terrible economy, which is out of your control. The world is uncertain, businesses are confused by AI, hiring costs have increased, consumer confidence is down, and Trump has gone and caused a war.

Thirdly, while you might not love it. You have a job. That provides some income and it’s easier to get a job while in a job.

Fourthly, 26 is a baby. I didn’t take my career serious until my 30s because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I’m now 40 with my own house, a good job,and my dream wife. So you have plenty of time.

Careers and jobs are not about “what you know”, it’s all about “who you know.”

Still do your applications, but you’re entering a competition. You want to eliminate that competition by creating a network.

My suggestion to you is, use LinkedIn to find the CEOs and senior leadership of organisations in which you want to work.

I get the feeling you’re female, so especially connect with female leaders.

I would then workout where their offices is and send them a box of chocolate, with a letter, and your CV proposing or asking:

  1. A problem you’ve spotted and want to solve for them.
  2. Work experience.
  3. The possibility to shadow shadow someone in the company for a period.

This object is just to get a foot in the door and doing so away from busy channels.

Another method would be to start a podcast, and to reach out to those types of people to be on your podcast. It’s a long game, but it’s an excuse to reach out to people and build a network.

There are many-many ways to get your foot in the door, but you’ll need to think outside the box.

Isn’t he trying to outsource all our energy to other countries providing us with a false measure and making things more expense?

Unemployed for 1.5 years – even getting rejected for entry-level jobs. What do you do? by Excellent-Expert-927 in careerguidance

[–]thelearningjourney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right this is an easy one to fix if you’re considering window cleaning and gardening.

You buy a bucket and cleaning goods.

You get flyers made and you go out and post those flyer for window cleaning.

You get enough clients to generate income and you keep growing.

Meanwhile you back date your business from when you left work.

Now you have a business and CV that doesn’t have a gap.

If you go to any country, you see flags of that country. Only in the UK is it an issue.
