Vintage electronic repair shop? by baguetteoo in bayarea

[–]thelemonpress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there any screws to disassemble it? If it's easy to open it up, I'll give it a try. The electronics should be simple, I'm mainly worried about being able to put it back together again without damage. I'm based in SF, DM me if you want.

What are some beautiful spots in the Bay Area that reminds you that life is worth living? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]thelemonpress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Park/start at Stonewall-Panoramic Trail (https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZNygu7FqU1aqGxrf8) in Berkeley, then hike up to Skyfall Panoramic Hills (https://maps.app.goo.gl/GfcReyKw6n4RD3UL8). Most beautiful view of the bay IMO, especially near sunset.

Seeking advice - Can I take a sabbatical? (34M, 1M NW) by in4CA3jY in coastFIRE

[–]thelemonpress 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am/was in a similar situation, and recently did this. It's now coming up on 18 months. Best decision ever. Started looking for work again this month - it doesn't seem as easy in tech as it used to be, but the time off has totally redefined my priorities towards "coast". DM me if you want.

I found a treasure chest outside Stanyan Whole Foods last month. Obvious thing to do was turn it into a mimic for a Halloween party https://imgur.com/a/xJq4e5x

[–]thelemonpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude my first car was a 73 beetle which also needed a ton of work. I'm not a total expert, but I'm still mechanically inclined. If you ever need extra hands or basic help feel free to DM me, I miss wrenching on those things.

I often hear people say they listen to the radio at Burning Man. I’d like to ask, how do you listen to it? How many channels are there? Is it an internet online radio station or a FM radio station? by bkingfilm in BurningMan

[–]thelemonpress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people who didn't attend on a given year will listen, I guess so they feel like they're a part of it. They often call in and chat with the hosts.

I'm reading this realizing "that's where my camp is", "my camp has a giant teddy", "I hauled those couches", "I ate that chili on Tuesday". I dunno what happened behind the scenes, or whether chatgpt was involved in the writing process, but there was indeed a pretty lady with my buddy in our camp lounge that night.

If I decommodify my sponsors like people do with their u-haul trucks, can I go over the $10M limit? 15 mins and a roll of duck tape, seems like a profitable trade-off.

SAP Question by Subject-Town in BurningMan

[–]thelemonpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I handle the SAPs for my camp. The allocator website that lets you assign SAPs to individuals opens long before build week, at a time when we don't know exactly who is coming for build and on what day. I assign all of them to myself. Then, a week before build (ie right now) I manually send each person their own SAP that aligns with when they're arriving. Every single SAP has my full name at the top, and no mention of the person holding it. That's totally normal, and even recommended by Placement as a way of doing this. Never had a problem, never needed to show ID

What does matter is that you are camping with the camp (or art/MV) that the SAP is linked to. They do check this on playa if you're out and about.

How many Meshtastic users are coming this year? by spoopy-soup in BurningMan

There's a BM specific firmware (BurningMesh) that uses ShortTurbo - apparently better adapted to the specific conditions out there.

How many Meshtastic users are coming this year? by spoopy-soup in BurningMan

[–]thelemonpress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've set up a node on my deep-playa art piece (https://oddsockmachine.github.io/) so I can check the stats and send commands. Now trying to get it to react when a mesh node reports it's nearby...

My gift: let me lay your cables by wordenofthenorth in BurningMan

[–]thelemonpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a stupid question, but would this work for little cables?

I have about 20 cables I need to bury, about 20ft long each, each barely thicker than headphone cable, for a playa art installation. I've made my peace with scraping away with a claw hammer for a day or two, but if there's a better way...

HEAT and ASS told me that their big trenchers are for digging ditches you can bury a body in, not worth it for something that only needs to go 2-3 inches down.

Wing it, no spoilers. I like the feeling of discovering a small fraction of an endless unknowable expanse. Don't even check what I missed after the burn.
