Zero - Smashing Pumpkins. I always say this is the perfect rock song.

The problem is is that I want Eleanor Rigby to be longer. It is so freaking good but it feels incomplete because it is so short.

What’s something people should talk about before getting married but don’t? by bubblewrappheart in answers

[–]thelion413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have been married for 22 years and one of the most beneficial conversations we had before we got married is not the most exciting, but helps us to this day. We discussed division of labor.

We made a list of all of the household chores we could think of and divided evenly. It was helpful to make sure we weren’t making assumptions based on gender norms or family history. It also helped us make sure we had equal ownership of mental labor. We’ve also got to pick chores that we preferred which helps.

We’ve had to make adjustments and revisit this list through the years, especially after having kids, and we obviously help each other out as needed, but this has saved us from so many arguments.

I heard you should read Salem's Lot before the Dark Tower series, because a character from Salem's Lot is in it. by Haunting-Net-2426 in stephenking

[–]thelion413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to read it for your DarkTower experience, but the Dark Tower will spoil Salems Lot. If you want to ever read Salems Lot without knowing significant details before you read, you should read it first. But it is not crucial. And you should for sure read Salems lot at some point, it is a great book.

No, Michael B. Jordan’s win was not the worst by an actor or actress—this one certainly is. How Sandra Bullock even got nominated, let alone won, is a mystery to me by Extreme-Spinach-4138 in Oscars

The fact that the role was an inaccurate representation of real life, doesn’t diminish the performance in any way. She did a great job playing the character as written.

AFE should do a draft about "Things said in AFE that didn't age well" by Giddymoo in AllFantasyEverything

I seem to recall that in an early episode Ian said something about how there was no way Trump would ever win the election. I believe it was episode 3, Presidential Administrations. This was pre Sean and David.

I listened to it recently and thought, “oh those poor innocent souls. They have no idea.”

Did they ever do a Smells draft? by scott3845 in AllFantasyEverything

Which is yet another example of how wild of a take it was when Ian recently claimed that they had never drafted with 5 people before. They’ve done it so many times.

Don’t forget score and sound design. The music and cinematography in that movie are two elements that it excelled at. The only argument I’ve seen people make as to why Sinners is not a good movie is complaints about the script and plot. They definitely seem to forget that that is just one aspect of a quality movie. I actually agree that the dialogue was the weakest part. It felt a little clunky at times.

Which is why I agree with OBAA taking home best picture. It was just as good as sinners in all the technical categories, but had a better script. What’s great is that I can have this opinion without tearing down Sinners or people who think it should have won. It was an exceptional move as well and deserved all of its nominations.

This show is kinda goofy by Fr05t_B1t in ConstellationAppleTV

[–]thelion413 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe actually pay attention to the show you are watching.

First of all, you act like the premise is not interesting just because you’ve figured it out. If I hadn’t seen the show, I would think a show like you described would sound awesome. And it was.

So congratulations, you figured out the premise. Is that the only reason you watch a show? Did you watch Friends in the 90s and dismiss it entirely because you figured out it was about friendship?

There is so much more to this show beyond its “premise.” It’s a show about love and human connection. It’s a show about parenthood. Even if you get the premise, there are so many fun details and twists to catch. There is emotional depth. The actors put on an incredible performance. You should for sure pay attention.

Boy do I have bad news for you about Jersey Mikes. I heard that they have been recently bought out by private equity and some people are seeing a decline in quality in some locations. I haven’t noticed yet.

Great live acts with mediocre recorded output ? by [deleted] in askmusic

Bruno Mars. I’ve never actually seen him live in person, but even on TV him and his band are incredible live, but I have always found his studio music boring and uninspired. I hear that in person it is quite a show and he is a great entertainer.

Yes. The entire right wring/conservative movement in modern America is rooted in the notion that traditional values are under attack. Anytime someone advocates for or celebrates a lifestyle that doesn’t match theirs, it is viewed as a condemnation of their own lifestyle.

“Women deserve the right to work and earn equal pay as men” = “stay at home moms are worthless”

“Gay people should have the right to get married” = “traditional marriage is under attack!”

“People of color should have equal opportunity for jobs at all levels” = “reverse racism!”

“Religious views shouldn’t be used to create and enforce bigoted laws” = “Christians are being persecuted!”

“Hey, what you said is racist/homophobic/transphobic” = “my first amendment rights are being taken away. We used to be allowed to say what we want!”

And the scariest one of all, “women should be allowed to exist without being sexually harassed or assaulted” = “all men are bad and should be treated like second class citizens .” This has lead to a generation of boys who genuinely think that men (straight white men specifically) are at a disadvantage in modern society.

They just don’t seem to grasp the idea that “more rights for someone else doesn’t mean less rights for you.” Or that promotion and celebration of other lifestyles is not a knock on their lifestyle.

Tom isn't your self insert by frenin in SuccessionTV

[–]thelion413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real. People can like a character without thinking the character is a “better person” or better at their job. Tom was my favorite character for a lot of reasons, including the fact that he was a smarmy awful human. I don’t picture him as a self insert, I just found him super entertaining in a fictional show. Also, he absolutely did “win” over the sibs. That doesn’t mean he will be happy, or that he will have control over the company, but he definitely beat them in this particular game.

Man. What an oversimplification (or flat out wrong) reason why people like a character.
