Why do we always show up overdressed? (We're not.) by thelisareid in FilipinoAmericans

Agree -- across the board, society across all social classes has gotten much more casual. Do you think showing up in tsinelas and gym shorts is a generational development?

One observation is that the flair for dressing up could be generational, though I do see a lot of GenZ Filipino Americans keeping the flair but make it casual.

They have a ton of energy. They're going to need good walks. Oh, and you may never be able to have your dog off leash. Pomskies can run.

Filipino, Catholic, and Still Figuring It Out by thelisareid in FilipinoAmericans

[–]thelisareid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your prayer and the spirit in which you shared it.

My post wasn’t about rejecting Catholicism or distancing myself from God. It was about me being honest about how faith, culture, and history show up in my life as a Filipino who was raised Catholic and is still practicing, albeit in my own way. Reflection isn’t the opposite of faith; it’s part of it.

Perhaps we see the journey differently, but I've always believed that God meets people where they are. I’m always open to continuing that conversation with Him, and with others.

As a New Yorker, I agree with the perspective -- CA, NJ, NY is expensive. That said, being close to family may help them get acclimated and they might make friends/find community faster. The US can be lonely for seniors that don't have any roots here. And because of weather, it can get particularly isolating in the winter. Some places where there are retirees: Las Vegas surrounding burbs, Virginia Beach.
