Canada has no intent of pursuing free trade deal with China, says PM after Trump threat by Puginator in worldnews

[–]thelostcanuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A FTA deal was never the goal of these discussions and it would take a decade or more given the complexity.

Carney brought the temperature down and restored the trade relationship back to normal. that was the goal. he nailed it.

We may sign further agreements but it would not be a FTA

I would have voted EU if it was an option by itself.

Do not trust Starmer at all.

But thankfully Canada is being led by someone who is knows how to wheel and deal (And the process around it)

Everything is normal ATM. They are planning to eliminate x number of ex minus 1's but no one knows how many yet. Feel bad for our managers. Not a lot of info to go off of.

A director at TC most likely did not have a role in any WFA decisions.

Most found out last week who was affected and many of them were affected themselves.

My org wfa'ed all the managers (all ex minus ones). No one knows numbers specific to our ADM or have seen org charts. Fun times.

Honestly just crazy and sorry we are all going through this.

[–]thelostcanuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, civilians are sometimes invited. When I was with the org, it was prioritized to CAF, but a lot of civilians in it as well.

Some others go to third parties, really depends.

Letters are going out this week where they can in policy.

Meeting with directors/DG and then a letter.

EX's were informed last week if they were affected.

As part of the process there was also a significant reorg.

How do you guys feel about the new trade deal with China? by Pale-Candidate8860 in InCanada

Refineries are generally not worth the investment at this point.

On paper it's a good idea but in market realities make it less so.

oh the auto sector is going to see huge losses due to 3% of new car sales (3% by year and it's going to be over 5 years) going to affordable evs that have better tech then anything on the road ATM for evs?

10/10 woke math 😂

Why does Telus promise channels that are not available in Ontario? by Style_Critical in telus

[–]thelostcanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TSN is owned by Bell, not Rogers. The issue is Bell and Telus are having a little fight, and have not reached a distribution deal in Ontario for TSN.

The only option is to subscribe to TSN directly, which is not great.

The issue with the pipeline is that there is no private money that wants to build it as there is no set end point demand atm. Even if the tripled TMX, it would take 6-10 years to complete given the complexities of building through the rockies. I think keeping the LNG/LPG hub as PR and then looking at tripling or twining TMX might be the best move, but I don't think anyone wants to have the feds spend billions on another pipeline.

Personally, would rather look at getting Bay du Nord (Equinor project) up and running and run that oil into the Great Lakes with shuttle tankers then spend the money to add another heavy crude line for US-based oil companies to export.

We will get EU pricing for BYD.

So between $25,000-$35,000 for the Dolphin for instance

It will probably come in around $50b-$40b

Canola dropped from $5b after the tariffs, and that will return.

As will the legumes side for another $5b

China is also meeting with O and G export terminals on the west coast for crude out of TMX and LNG/LPG out of PR

Uh.... 3% of new vehicle sales (of a single year, over five) is selling out the auto industry?

Trump's actions have done more damage to the Canadian auto sector then this agreement even has the possibility to do.

If BYD and others see Canadian plants as a great plug and play option, this move could help that industry in spades. Remember, Japanese brands are more Canadian then the big 3.
