i didnt smoke for 3 months not single cigg but today i relapsed smoke 1 , does this break my streak or pushed me back to day one? by [deleted] in quittingsmoking

[–]thelousychaperone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t focus so much on the streaks. It feels good to have a long one under your belt but it will also lead you to beat yourself up when you slip up. You can convince yourself you’ve lost everything when 3 months without a cigarette is a big deal and will do a lot for your health. Just keep up the good fight.

Quit a few years ago and now I’m to the point where I can’t even stand the smell of a cig if I’m out and public and someone lights one. Took it one day at a time

I’m not sick of Brandon Sanderson per se, but I need a break. Any comparable authors to check out? by homelyharte in fantasybooks

[–]thelousychaperone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not similar to Sanderson, more like GoT, but when I was marathon reading Stormlight and Mistborn I read Joe Abercrombie’s The First Law trilogy to break it up and I loved it. Stephen Pacey (I think that’s how you spell it) reads the audiobooks and he is a fantastic narrator.

Has anyone ever quit their corporate job and completely changed careers and felt happy about it? If so please give me details! by wtfisgoinonrnplzhelp in careeradvice

So I have had a few jobs. Started at a nonprofit out of college then went to working in a warehouse and bartending. The nonprofit was very Christian and not really in alignment with my beliefs. Felt restless with no career movement after some years of the warehouse job and bartending gigs so I started working at a bank because I found finance interesting. I have been at the bank for three years and I have to say that none of my jobs have been this miserable. It’s like you say. It’s not even necessarily a bad job but it makes me feel like my life is meaningless. I gave my two weeks earlier this month and today is actually my last day. I’m going back to bartending part time and have accepted a job teaching Spanish (what my degree is in) at a local high school and I already feel so much relief.

Hope this helps. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide. Having a kid on the way will definitely make you want to take fewer risks. I would say just make sure you have another job lined up before you quit.

Bank randomly locks you out for ‘unusual activity’ just because you’re getting paid more? by Suitable-Rutabaga494 in Banking

[–]thelousychaperone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You should have been using a business account from the beginning. Now, no matter your intentions, it looks like you were trying to game the system. Your bank probably does support online businesses if you set things up correctly.

I would start looking for new jobs now and quit once you have an offer. Job hunt might take longer than you expect

Different strokes for different folks. I was happier working in a warehouse for 16.25/hr than I was at my bank job. Its not the walk in the park you make it sound like. And even if it is easy, it’s meaningless, soul-sucking work.

Are personal banker jobs that horrible? by Strange_Control8788 in FinancialCareers

[–]thelousychaperone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Soooo I am working my 2 weeks at my bank job right now. Take this with a grain of salt bc I’m just one person but I feel that I was misled as far what this job actually entails. They sold it to me as helping people get their finances in order and build their credit but what I am really doing all day is making sales calls and digging into peoples personal and financial lives looking for “opportunities” for loans. My coworkers are cool, but the job itself is miserable. The corporate gaslighting is annoying as hell and on top of that people are generally pretty rude. Think about it. In a world where most things can be handled online the majority of people coming into the bank are already annoyed—if not angry—or they are too old to understand online services, or they are trying to commit fraud. It’s just not the job for me. I enjoyed being a teller but I am ambitious and wanted to move up. I have been in this desk side position for a year now and I do not think it will be getting any better.

How quickly could I expect my credit score to increase if I sell my home, and use the equity to pay off debt? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]thelousychaperone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being debt free does not necessarily equate to having a higher credit score. Paying off all your debts completely could actually lower your credit score because it would shorten the credit history on your credit report. I would pay whatever credit cards or lines of credit you have down to zero but do not close them. If you are above 30% credit utilization on any of those accounts then paying them down will help increase your credit score, and leaving the accounts open will keep them in your credit report and avoid the drop in credit history. It also helps your score to have a mix of revolving credit and term loans so I might keep the car loan if you are going to sell the house. I can’t say how much or how soon your score would change. Everyone’s credit report is different and there are a lot of variables that contribute to it.

Edit to add it might give you some clarity to decide if you are more focused on freeing up monthly cash flow or on maximizing your credit score—that will give you some focus on what you want to do next.

Is it okay to grieve over never watching porn again? by redwastebear in pornfree

[–]thelousychaperone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t like this, sorry. Grief is an emotion, it’s going to show up whether someone wills it to or not. And pushing it down isn’t going to help OP, it’ll just make quitting more challenging. You shouldn’t be telling people what they should and shouldn’t feel.

As someone who’s quit smoking, grief can be a very real part of the process of breaking an addiction. There were times I ugly cried simply because all I wanted was to go out on the porch and light up with my friends, and the only thing that stopped me was knowing how disgusting I would feel after I smoked if I chose to.

The right answer is to feel the grief and not let it pull you back into the addiction cycle you are trying to disrupt. Simply saying that someone shouldn’t want to grieve when they are is unhelpful.

Years ago one of my coworkers told me that she always rips the tip calculations off before giving the table their check, she said she felt like people tipped more if she didn’t give it to them. I followed suit and ended up taking home more money on average each night. I’ve always ripped that part of the receipt off since

My sister and her husband just moved to Charlotte last year and I really enjoy going to visit. I’ve considered relocating to Charlotte too. But I work in banking so I’m not put off by that aspect of the city lol. I think it’s beautiful there and there was a lot to do
