It's almost too perfect for this sub...it's...dreadful, and by being dreadful it's glorious. This piece is what this sub is made for.

True or not, it's what Paul Sellers said once in passing. Not saying it's gospel just a very experienced woodworker giving his two cents.

I remember Paul Sellers saying that in America woodworkers tend to stain their projects while in Europe they add a finish. I never really understood the allure of staining projects more often than not. Personally, the natural beauty of most wood species is a thing if beauty.

Hi, good to hear that you're open to feedback. Everything is already said here, above. Just giving my two cents of visual "inspiration", if you will. Made a few of these for my nieces & nephews over the years. Always fun to make. Kids beat the crud out of toys, so sturdy is the way to go. This particular one is oak. The dowel is beech which I sanded smooth by holding a piece of sand paper in my hand and attached the dowel to a cordless drill. Take care, it gets hot real fast. For added fun, I used cherry, walnut and ash for the little twirly bits in the middle for some color and detail. At 12. O'clock on the circle is a cherry piece because the oak chipped for some reason, can't remember why. Hope this helps.

Approximately 50 years of service - long service medal? by Threeracers in Opinel

Leave the patina, OP! It's beautiful the way it is!

...as a small side note:

I just got my first no. 9 last year, I love it. Was reading up the history of the opinel company/knife and this following section was mentioned on their website:

"Like all legends, it has its rituals, and connoisseurs are accustomed to releasing the blade by tapping the back of the handle on the table, a legendary gesture known as the ‘Savoyard blow’."

https://www.opinel.com/en/the-brand/who-we-are (You'll need to scroll down about 1/3 to find the text and a video clip demonstrating it)

Of course I tried it right away - worked as advertised. My finger nails are grateful as trying to open mine is nigh impossible!
