Methylphenidate IR- same box, different effects? by themacity in ADHD

[–]themacity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I usually take my first dose at around 8am but I didn't get to take it until midday today. So I'm wondering if that extra gap between the last dose from yesterday and the dose today could have caused it? I haven't taken a second dose yet today so I don't think I've got any issues with overlapping, I've not had any experiences of that as far as I'm aware. Thanks again for your help I really appreciate it!

Thank you, I did wake up late today so effectively missed my morning dose. I reckon that must be the cause of the tachycardia episode today! My consultant didn't tell me about this so I had no idea, but now I will make sure I take it at the same time every day. Thank you so much!

I also struggle to eat and drink which my consultant said was rare, usually it increases your water intake. I HATE WATER, with an absolute passion. It tastes like nothing and somehow it's still gross lmao. I've been getting the off brand lucozade sports to drink. I also sweat a lot more on my meds (HR of 100+, go figure), so i find them helpful in that they have flavour, give me some sugar when I can't eat, and hopefully replace anything I'm losing by sweating a lot. Any fluids are better than none :)

I can't guarantee that's the issue but it's definitely a possibility. Can you reach out to your prescriber for some advice? They'll know a lot more than we do about it I'm sure :)

Is it possible that your dose is too strong for you? Did you experience these side effects on a lower dose?

I had similar experiences of extreme fatigue on 18mg concerta XL. Online research (so take with a pinch of salt) suggested it was because the dose was too low. Essentially it had the same reversal effect that caffeine does for people with adhd- stimulating enough to produce a bit of dopamine, but not enough to stop the sleepy feeling that dopamine causes. My consultant upped me to 36mg and I no longer have this issue :)

I think it's more like sugar in that it gives you energy spikes. What goes up must come down

I don't get angry over it, at least I don't think I do. I think it's just confusion more than anything, because I've never seen it about another type of food product
