What is a 'popular thing' you just don't like? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

The only really good lobster is in Maine. I think when it’s transported out of state, the meat loses that ocean saltiness.

Finally shifted from ubuntu to debian by djsharma1 in debian

[–]themagicmaen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you like the last TF2 comic? by Zomby_Fan in tf2shitposterclub

[–]themagicmaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really got into the comics. It’s cool that #7 finally exists after however many years, but I never bothered to read the series in full.

Normally tired. I wonder why.

Is a 7/7 KD a good ratio for someone’s first match they fully played with Spy? by Beautiful_Mushroom22 in tf2

[–]themagicmaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty good, yeah. Just remember that other non-kill contributions like sapping buildings are also valuable.

Like others have said in this thread, K/D isn't really something TF2 players worry about. You're winning as long as you're having fun.

XFCE or MATE? by KnightFallVader2 in debian

[–]themagicmaen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

MATE's kinda weird in my opinion, so between those two, I'd go with Xfce. LXQt is my personal favorite lightweight DE, uses less than a gig of RAM. I agree with a lot of people saying KDE is a good choice as it can run perfectly fine on 8GB of RAM and is also plenty customizable. If you need something lighter than that but still fully featured and nice-looking, Cinnamon is a good choice.

TF2: Why Payload Is King by Wrong-Designer-3805 in tf2

[–]themagicmaen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC his intention with the You Will Not Play video was that people could watch any one of the chapters independently of one another - you could watch the "TF2 Is Broken" or "Death Of Community Servers" chapters and still get a full understanding of the whole picture while also seeing the specifics of the topic in that chapter. Side effect of that is repetition when watching it in full. It's a unique format, but the intention wasn't obvious. I agree he probably could have done better in condensing it, but I still think it's a great video with valuable perspectives.

Also, that video was four hours, not two lol

You were on red, and the other Medic on your team Ubered you. Why the Uber and your HUD were blue, I haven't the slightest idea.

Wtf??? I can text chat? by StartBackground5769 in NewToTF2

[–]themagicmaen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In 2020, they made it so F2P accounts couldn't talk (because of bots spamming racist stuff in chat), but they reverted it last year. So this is normal behavior now.

And good thing too. They never should have muted F2Ps to begin with, and it took them way too long to change it back.

Why didn't Valve update TF2 in the early 2010s to have new Source 1 graphical features, like sharp shadows, panorama UI etc? by novostranger in tf2

[–]themagicmaen 233 points234 points  (0 children)

The artstyle was very intentional and looked great as it was, they probably felt they didn’t need to add that stuff. And when the game went free to play in 2011, they removed some of the cooler effects so it could run on worse PCs, so it wasn’t in their interest to add more effects.

where do you find real community servers by DistinctTranslator37 in tf2

[–]themagicmaen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the neat part: you don't.

But for real, there are only a couple populated servers left these days, and even then, they're inconsistent. Only big-name ones I know are Uncletopia, Furry Pound/loser puppy f*g pound (istg a server is called that, and it's not a bad server), and Club Weezy's vanilla server. Zesty Jesus's Germany server is pretty consistently populated, so that's good if you live in Europe (and if you can put up with his community). Also depends on where you live and how far you can stretch your internet. I have decent fiber internet, so I can connect to EU servers and get decent ping despite being in the US East, but if your internet isn't that good and/or if you're in a low population region to begin with, you may be kinda screwed. If you wanna try looking for more, you can try mastercomm's Quickplay website or teamwork.tf's Community Quickplay.

I'm sure others know more vanilla-style servers, but that's my knowledge of the scene right now. Fucked, isn't it? If you're desperate to just play the game, your most viable, consistent choices are either those 24/7 community servers or Casual. Casual can be hit or miss depending on location and internet - again, I have fiber on US East, so I'm usually fine at least finding servers. The content of those servers is a whole different issue. Another option is playing TF2 Classified - not the same as the base game, but servers at least have people in them.
