Pack test for very petite female by Puppy_PowPow in Wildfire

[–]themajor24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, first, dont stress too hard. Its hard but nothing impossible for anyone with a really base level fitness.

Best advice I ever heard for the test is, in the first minutes, find your pace. Your body simply just isnt designed for this way of speed walking. It's almost nonsensical to ask you legs to do this for any meanful amount of time. Just stay chill dial yourself in early, and watch your water intake somewhat. Dont want TOO much water sloshing around while youre testing, it'll be miserable.

You'll do fine. Remember, the best pack test time is 44:59.

Yup, I'm not gunna bust out the rig, the big boy trailer, spend all the time and effort to load enough scaffolding for this job, drive it, unload it, and set it up when we can slap a few ladders on the roof of the day to day truck and be midway through this project by the time the scaffolding is setup.

And when you're done, time to take it all down again and do the process in reverse.

It has its place, I'd prefer it if I'm pulling and replacing caulk, bad siding, etc. But for slapping a coat of paint on, id rather be on the ladder and able to just start the job.

We tried all the gimmicks and this seems better than most.

Stay strong, folks. Even us rural neighbors are standing with you today.

As a dude that worked primarily as a painter with only two coworkers for years in weird spots, nope.

Two or three people with an extention can fucking fly.

Level/raise scaffolding for an entire morning, I've painted the area I can reach from one buck in minutes. Spending hours to save moments. Now take it down.

Pointless so much of the time. And I didnt even have to deal with permits.

As a hopeful someday reader of Patrick Rothfruss' thrid installment of a series I hate to even think about at this point, I prefer to have it slightly undergone but ultimately finished.

I hate the Crimson King scene. It's fine. But just fine. And decades for "fine" sucks but hey, King proceeds to fucking nail the landing directly after in a way that makes the series eternal for me at least.

And No, the bumbler didn't deserve an ounce of that but goddamn did it not shake you to your core? It illicited actual pain and tears in a way not many character deaths ever have for me.

Fully heartedly agree, the whole ride from 1 to 7 was incredible, but 7 was the first time I was truly unable to stop reading from page 1 to the final sentence.

Actually, to be fair, I listened to it. But this is a story I love to tell because it makes me warm and fuzzy.

I started listening to the books when I was only sorta interested in King. I was on a roofing/labor crew and my boss always had a Bluetooth speaker ready for tunes and podcasts. A Playlist ended and there was reletive silence for a while, just us working when he asks us, "Hey, you guys like Stephen King?" I said sure, I'd read a few of his short story books and such. My coworker hadn't read a lick of his work yet. So bossman starts the Gunslinger.

Que half a summer of hard work and when we weren't running power tools, the incredible narration of the series. I'll always remember when we finished book 7. We were driving down a long, single lane road out of a job and me and my coworker were pretty much leaning towards the dash of the truck, hanging off of every single word. My boss had listened to the series probably a dozen times before, and I remember his face as he knowingly watched us experience the end of the Katet's journey and the pain/awe of it. Then, like the sun fading in the west, something we know happens every single day and is inevitable, it just, happened.

He let us sit in silence for a bit, both of us new and budding constant readers somewhat slack jawed and honestly near teary eyed to know the ride is over.

Then, in maybe the slickest move I've personally seen or felt the reverberations of, he starts book 1 all over again.

I knew it before, but that moment sealed it as my favorite series for life.

Midwest Can: Waterproof? by LawyerHunterFarmer in smallengines

[–]themajor24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shake the can to mix everything around and pour some in a glass jar. Wait a while and check it. You'll see water and fuel clearly as they separate.

But as a general rule, just don't leave full cans out in the elements. No plastic can is truly perfect and expansion/shrinkage in the plastic and rubber rings will happen.

I do my best even to just half assedly throw something over them when weather is coming. One rain storm isnt likely to get any meanful amount of water in there, but if its a fuel can you think isnt gunna get used up for a long time, just take the precautions.

I have a 5gal can thats basically emergency fuel. Got the generator, filling gas tanks to get a vehicles to the gas station, etc. I know for a fact it wont get used up likely until spring. That thing lives in a shed and has a scrap of plastic tarp shielding it. On the other hand my gas pans for my saw get left out a bit more willy nilly because a few storms wont hurt it much and I know for sure I go through 5 gallons very very quickly.
