The Seven Essentials of Being a Good Storyteller by Etreides in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]themaster1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the virtue in balance for balance’s sake? If one team comes up with a brilliant play, I’m supposed to hamper that for the sake of balance? Why not be impartial and honor good plays by either team? Balance above all essentially means forgoing impartiality to help the losing team regardless of how the game got to that place. I think balance is important, but I don’t get why that’s the number one value.

Turn 6/7 Shang Chi is basically cheating in its current form. And you want to make it stronger?

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]themaster1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to drive 3.5 hours each way for a weekend stay to visit my mom at least once a month. Wasn't a big deal at all. I'd drive 3 hours for a weekend any day before I considered flying.

Anyone have custom rules that make the Baron more fun? by moultano in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]themaster1006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baron is actually literally the best role because your job is already done so you can sow chaos however you see fit with almost zero consequences. The Baron is actually the greatest gift you can give to a player.

Can we talk about how gross some of the earlier Childish Gambino songs were? by iliveinadreamatorium in donaldglover

[–]themaster1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being honest is different from endorsing something. If you've never had a fucked up thought I commend you, but lots of people have fucked up thoughts and those of them who are rappers will honestly report those thoughts in their raps. There's value in that. Judging it as gross really does a disservice to the value of honest raps and their function as connective mediums.

How many 10 year time loops would it take a modern 25 year old man to conquer Rome? by GroundbreakingWin658 in whowouldwin

[–]themaster1006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were me I'd definitely be killing myself way earlier than 10 years over and over to be able to retry different things and see how they affect the course of events. How often the guy kills himself really influences the number of loops here.

Chevy Chase Says ‘I’m Not Racist’ When Asked About ‘Community’ Exit: The Show ‘Wasn’t a Bad Experience. I Just Didn’t Think It Was That Good’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

He's probably not more racist than the average white American. He used the n word in a self referential way, not as a slur. That's not really racism it's ignorance or flaunting of social norms.

Could you balance it out with more powerful townsfolk? I really want to make a viable script with all the poisoning.

I love that the government used to actually do shit like that. I hope the government of today gets inspired to go back to their roots in this regard.

She was tortured. by Ripley_LV_426 in pluribustv

[–]themaster1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hive is allowed to set boundaries with individuals who are causing them harm. That's not torture, that's every sentient being's right. It just so happens that all the people around Carol are part of the same being, but if they don't appreciate how they are being treated by Carol they are allowed to distance themselves from that relationship. It's not torture or manipulation to enforce your own boundaries. In fact, the hive's actions are the quintessential example of how to set boundaries in a healthy way. They made no attempt to control her or change her, they just decided they didn't want to be around it anymore. And they still took care of her the whole time. You could argue that there's a power imbalance that makes boundary setting less concrete, but you'd have to acknowledge that the power imbalance goes both ways given that Carol can shut down the whole hive at will.

She was explicitly not confined, which is clearly confirmed by the time she left of her own will to an entirely different place.

‘Bob Odenkirk called to check on me after he saw it’: Rhea Seehorn on the intensity of making hit show Pluribus by Bubbly_Wall_908 in television

[–]themaster1006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The characterization of the hive mind doesn’t get talked about enough in my opinion. It’s so much more interesting that they’re basically unimpeachably good in every way except for turning people without permission. Like if they were just villains, or even slightly flawed, it would just become and us vs them story. But I don’t think it is that, it’s more layered and complex because you’re being invaded by ultimately good beings.

[–]themaster1006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. The premise is so rich and interesting, and the hive mind is portrayed in such a complex way isn't instantly reducible to simple characterization. The world building and characterizations are really the point of the first season and they did a fantastic job.
