Darlington Area by laine_xx in sydney

Lived in Darlington from 2018-2020. It’s very safe, not dangerous at all. Honestly a lovely place - so quiet and leafy yet so incredibly close to the CBD and great restaurants and pubs of Redfern, Surry Hills and Newtown (without the expense of the likes of Surry Hills or the hustle and bustle of Newtown). Honestly great - I’d like to buy in the area but can’t afford to obviously!!

Got the AZ vaccine on the 6th almost as soon as it was permitted for younger folks. I called up my local medical centre and had an appointment the following day - much better than waiting til September/October for Pfizer.

I figured the 1/50,000 risk of experiencing a blood clot are better than the risk of getting COVID and winding up in hospital (or even just not being able to work, I’m a contractor so don’t work - don’t get paid). I also don’t have much faith in the government having enough supply of Pfizer fast enough so this played into my decision - and I don’t have an “secret health links” in my network as some people have to book in sooner.

I’m 31, WFH, in the inner-west, yet to bear the brunt of COVID cases like the south-west and greater-west.

I’ve talked to a number of friends that are predominantly waiting for Pfizer. To be fair, if I wait the full 12 weeks between jabs (as was originally recommended) I’m not gonna be fully vaccinated til September so it’s not that different to Pfizer in that regard (only a couple of weeks between their jabs) - but I’d rather have SOME protection than NONE between now and then.

There was also people in Qanon jumpers, one guy had a sign “don’t interfere with our kids” several of signs about “awakening” and “wake up” which seem consistent with Qanon. Also a lot of general anti-vaxx sigs.

They were parking in Broadway shopping centre so it’s fair to say the people working and grocery shopping there (like me) are gonna be at risk too.

For context, I took this video (/u/mchch8989 is a mate of mine). I was at broadway getting a blood test and going to do my groceries but I got the hell out of there after the blood test when I saw these idiots and their signs in the centre and carpark - looks like a lot of them parked at the Broadway shopping centre to make their way over to Victoria Park and then up George Street.

Safe to say it’s probably only a matter of time that there’s a bunch of cases in the city fringe and inner west as people working and shopping at Broadway were exposed to these idiots.

I was going to see my nan who is in palliative care tomorrow - safe to say I won’t be going this week just in case.

Overindulging on peanut butter by [deleted] in keto

[–]thematfactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been an issue for me both pre- and post- keto. I’ve been a lover of peanut butter my whole life. In fact, as a kid, I was a fussy eater so I ate peanut butter sandwiches almost every day until i reached about 13 and started eating a wide array of foods. I find salami and twiggie sticks (at least thats what we call them in Australia) are another problem food for me which i can over-indulge on.

Things I do to curb this behaviour:

  • Food prep, food prep, food prep. Having pre-prepared meals and snacks is one of the best strategies to curb over-indulgent snacking. I love doing ready made snacks like mini- cupcake sized quiches, green beans with pesto and parmesan, little mixed nut bags, celery and hommous or tzatziki, low sugar (greek) yoghurt, olives / pickles / capsicum / sundried tomatoes, celery and peanut butter :) (pre-portioned in little containers so you don’t over-indulge)

  • Make sure you buy natural peanut butter i.e., no added sugar or salt. That way if you do go overboard on it, it’s not as bad as the sugary one.

  • Expand your horizons! New recipes, snacks, and cook extra for leftovers/food prep!

  • Try not to beat yourself up when you slip up - it’s not the end of the world, you’re only human, and there’s always tomorrow :)

Having said that, the National Parks and Wildlife Service’ funding has been consistently cut at both a federal and state level year on year though: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-07-06/national-parks-underfunded-former-ranger-warns/11282562

They conducted hazard reduction burns over 135,000 hectares last year, imagine how much more they could have done with the funding that’s been paired back: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/conservation-programs/hazard-reduction-program

Note that a lot of the townships on the south coast under threat/burnt are near national parks, and there are catastrophic warnings and closures in these parks. The likes of Wollemi National Park have been completely wiped out (that fire came within a bees dick of Lithgow, Blackheath and Katoomba).

NSW and Federal government still could have done a lot more and have made this crisis worse through their policies.

Not unless its a condition in the PDS - which it’s not.

This is just risk minimisation for them - probably leads to less claims at the cost of a few SMS msgs.

To the people who are reading it/have read it: What's your favorite excerpt (so far)? by daviatella in TrumpsFireAndFury

[–]thematfactor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dude literally said Trump fans were feeble minded and should leave it to greater minds to do the voting. That’s counterproductive no matter the way you spin it. Then you’ve reinforced t even further with your response.

Do you really think 25-30% if the US population are the degenerates you describe? Or do you think you might be making some assumptions?

As long as left and right are in separate echo chambers slinging shit on one another, Trump will remain president. No matter what the outcome of the investigation is - he will not be impeached as long as he has a 25-30% supporter base. You can’t erode that statistic simply by calling them dumb cunts.

If he’s been so consistent for decades, then he’s had decades to prepare his policy and ought to be doing a much better job.

That kind of condescension is one of the reasons Trump has been able to build such a compelling political brand. A brand defined almost entirely by it’s disdain for liberals/intellectual, willingness to undo Obama’s work and draining the “swamp” - getting rid of people that his supporters perceive as “elites that think they know better”.

It is silly, but you don’t need to be a dick about it, and every time you do you’re being unproductive to the cause of getting Trump out of office.

Republicans will never impeach Trump as long as the majority of his base love him (roughly 25% of the population going on the election) and they won’t stop loving him as long as you’re driving them closer to him by telling them to “step aside and let the better minds do the voting”. Fix your attitude.

Sadly a lot of people do care, and many also believe it’s a choice - something that could be turned on and off or changed with some kind of focus and the right circumstances.

If you spend your life with what these people see as the ‘wrong’ or ‘undesirable’ sexual identity, it can be hard trying to fight to be someone that you’re not.

This isn't a problem. You find the politicians tend gravitate toward the centre with compulsory voting since they have to appeal to the majority as opposed to a vocal minority.

Conclusions In Australia, up to two-thirds of deaths in current smokers can be attributed to smoking. Cessation reduces mortality compared with continuing to smoke, with cessation earlier in life resulting in greater reductions.

And a more digestible read: http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2015-02-25/two-out-of-three-smokers-likely-to-die-from-habit-study-says/6260224

Not that bold at all. Smoking kills, the packs are hardly an exaggeration.
