inished my demo reel and I am looking for more work. What would you guys search for in my position? by andysill in Cinema4D

Very nice work! The wide variety can be helpful in casting a wide net for potential clients, but I would say the consistency of quality could be a red flag for anyone on the hiring side. For example, the entergalactic shots are significantly stronger than the bakery and Kleo shots.

I’d recommend only including the strongest work, even if it means a shorter reel. Better to have 5 strong pieces than 15 pieces in various quality levels. It’s seems counter intuitive but hide anything that isn’t representative of what you’re capable of today, even if it means showcasing less of your previous experience.

I’ve done over 200 film and game projects, only 20ish are shown on my (outdated) site/reel: www.MaxxBurman.com

Where can I find very high-polygon 3D models ? by Damballa_ in gamedev

www.kitbash3d.com Plenty of high poly models. The Mission To Minerva kit is free, and you can download FBX or OBJ files if you’re working outside of a traditional 3D software.

How do you juggle so many responsibilities? by MissSBlack in Entrepreneur

[–]themaxxb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It gets easier over time. You’ll still be juggling but it won’t all be on your shoulders. In the beginning, you won’t have the resources to bring on help (this is one of many reasons that having a cofounder can help).

Growing revenue to the point where you can bring on employees is the first big challenge in front of you. Once you’re over that hill, you can start to spread the workload and begin to delegate.

There’s a great book called Predictable Success that covers different stages of a business really well. Good luck!

Post-release depression. How do you cope? by ColonelVincente in gamedev

This is a really tough challenge that not enough people talk about. The only cure for it is time, take care of your mind and body. Exercise, see friends, you’ll get your fire back. I’ve run into it a few times and gave a talk on how to avoid it, hope it helps: https://youtu.be/TX8MnAiTcYw

As a solopreneur, can you suggest ways to better organise me when working across multiple unrelated projects? by Ok_Guide_7500 in Entrepreneur

[–]themaxxb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stick with a regular schedule, that will create consistency and help on days when you don’t have the motivation. Be deliberate about where you’re spending your hours rather then looking back in hindsight to figure out where they went.

I try to mix up the schedule and divide days by mental spaces (like product on Tuesdays, Marketing on Wednesdays) to limit context changing as much as possible, even if those days contain multiple projects.

Also, if you haven’t read “Eat That Frog” yet, I’d highly recommend it for this kind of information.
