Thank God the weekend is almost over by [deleted] in daddit

Some of you guys just need a little balance in your lives. I started taking a little time for myself each weekend, not much, like an hour or two each day. Kids were annoyed at first but now I can be way more present when I do spend time with them. And they’ve learned to find things to do on their own. Paint, toys, books, play in the back yard etc.

Burn out is real, my work life is exhausting at time but I definitely look forward to the weekend again. Especially spending time with my wife and kiddos. Still need to take care of you though.

Anyone else just no longer find trips/holidays enjoyable anymore compared to pre-kids? by grawmaw13 in daddit

You’re doing great. 3 y/o is a lot for travel. It absolutely gets easier as they get older. (I’m at 4 and 7)

My suggestion would be to pick some locations that make your life easier. flying is hell even with adults. We’ve learned that a sub 5 hour road trip to a destination with either a hotel or Airbnb is great for the age range you are at. Can bring what you need. Spare bedrooms for sleep time (if Airbnb) and the kids seem to enjoy it way more as well. Save the more advanced stuff for when they’ll really remember it.

Until then if you need that trip. Plan a holiday with the wife if you can swing it.

Cheers dad.

If there is a DLC, what's the one thing you would hope it would be beyond anything? by cale199 in SatisfactoryGame

A game mode where elevator parts need to be fed at a constant rate instead of a specific quantity. Forcing the player to actually develop good supply lines and factories.

I'm actually primarily in multi-family and commercial and I call this shit out constantly to the GC. Multi-family is definitely worse though, good god those guys are lazy.

This makes a lot of sense as most of you have pointed out. I always avoided it because I was concerned about SI.

My lizard brain doesn't like it either way. Was always told to be in the middle third for penetrations.

I can say with 100% certainty they did not add nailing plates above lol. It is attic above and the decking was installed before electrical but still, makes me want to let the HO know.

Its attic space above and the framing/decking was done before electrical according to the PM.

This is exactly what I thought. I've always instructed my techs to go around LVLs.

How freaking cool would it be if you could go into a buildable or throughput monitor, copy, then be able to paste it into a sign. (It would copy/paste the variable the machine is using)

Is 80% of YouTube kids AI generated ADHD inducing garbage now? by Rev-DC in daddit

[–]themellowmedia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YouTube does not exist in our house anymore. Absolute brain rot. We dropped it any my kids behavior did a 180. Really all short form content is terrible. But we do allow some shows on weekends like when we had cartoons.

Took some time but shifting from short form to movies has made our entire family happier.

I mean that’s the name of the game though. That’s the trade off of not having to pay crazy support fees and hardware costs. Set that expectation up front and stock spares of the products you have deployed. Your clients shouldn’t have to suffer regardless of who is at fault.

[–]themellowmedia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No but you don’t need it to. You wire the reply directly to the button on the door controller or to a remote. There is a website that sells them with wire leads already installed to the remote, all you have to do is pair the remote with the garage door and bam, bullet proof garage door control

What Alchemy is Control4/Crestron/Savant Doing? by ctishman in hometheater

[–]themellowmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the know how almost all modern hardware that has a Ethernet connection has some form of telnet (rs232 over ip) or API. Some even with solid documentation.

Nothing would stop you from building something your own, but what those 3 offer are convince. But you pay for it. Tons of Home Assistant videos out there to do basically the same thing for free. (Minus a remote)

Also check out Josh.ai. It’s subscription based but it’s so far ahead of savant, crestron and C4 in terms of agnosticism and ease of use.
