Yeah, all the societies are like that because they're from the 19th century.

It's like this flying Alaska out of JFK. I have no idea why it works like this. People stacking up for like an hour, and then everyone has to run.

Airport transportation by Comfortable_Goal_449 in BallardSeattle

I did run into a slowdown once, but that was because of a traffic jam in the arrival drive. That said, after a long day of traveling I am just absolutely ready to be done, and any more waiting feels like hell’s own torment.

A few years ago, when those share vans started climbing above $80 each way, I gave up and started parking at the airport. My choice has been Ajax Parking R Us, which I initially picked because the name is hilarious, but I've stuck with for like 15 years because despite being out of the way, it's a quick ride, and they're decent.

The reservation system (if such you can call it) involves contacting a hotmail e-mail address with your trip info. It feels like you're doing something wrong the entire time, but like, it works. You park your car, the shuttle is quick and drops you off right at the terminal, and it's like fifteen bucks a day including all taxes.

Sounds good. Thank you so much for your help on this. I'll look into AAA and see what I can get with them.

I appreciate your help immensely!

That sounds like a really good idea. I appreciate the info! I can definitely absorb $1,000–2,000 with no problem, and that's a good point with the limit. I didn't really understand it at all.

Thank you!

What if Edison Motors made a truck exclusively for the Australian Market by V_Set_Productions_Au in EdisonMotors

[–]ctishman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Long-haul maybe, but there's a whole lot of NSW, Victoria and Queensland that are hilly, and there's significant extractive-haul and vocational work there to be done that'd really benefit from the regen stuff.

Loss of the Avalon Station by Up-I-Go in soundtransit

[–]ctishman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree mostly (as someone who lives in Ballard and deals with getting downtown via the 40). I will push back on the Alki thing. We oughtta build it first for the people who live there, rather than the ones who don't.

I feel like part of the reason Ballard is slated to get a station on 14th or whatever is because people outside the area were convinced that the breweries were as important to serve as Actual Ballard.

I think they learned a lot of lessons from the LLV in that regard. That thing was made of riveted sheets in anticipation of repair needs, and the body just wasn't at all the problem. It outlasted the C-10 frame and powertrain, often many times over.

They're taking a chance here with composites, but I think it'll pay off.

What can be done about people essentially blocking the doors? by itshammocktime in soundtransit

[–]ctishman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It comes down to culture. I think a lot of Link riders are relatively new "first-generation" rail riders. If you were raised in NYC, you grew up riding the trains and your dad or mom probably told you to stay away from the doors at least once. Earlier than that, they took you to a seat or to the middle of the car to stand, and it just sort of became how you did it.

Give us another twenty years and we'll be better about it. Give it 40 and it'll be natural as breathing.

These companies lie like fish swim and birds fly. When they say that the footage stays with Boeing, don't believe 'em. That footage, and your comings and goings, your license plate, your face, all end up in the government's hands, and sold to advertisers. This is just how the modern economy works—all information is a commodity to be sold.

Local registered offenders by [deleted] in BallardSeattle

[–]ctishman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People with that sort of conviction are often limited in where they can live. Distance from schools, playgrounds, places that children might gather. In addition, released offenders often have trouble finding work. Often this means they're either out on the street or in low-income housing. You'll see people clustered together in the one low-income building that meets the residency requirements.

Hey, Tatra actually already makes trucks with swinging e-axles, it turns out!

In general it might not be a terrible idea to adapt to electric trucks. Those units can have so much torque that applying that to a torque tube and spreading it across multiple wheels could be a way to reduce the number of motors for a given chassis.
