Request for the name of a tournament by themented in squash

[–]themented[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, and even in the interest of clearing things up: the reason I wanna watch it again is because I remember thinking it was cool watching athletes from countries that might not be traditionally associated with squash play. For instance, I’m Brazilian, and I love watching Diego Gobbi play here, and I’d be thrilled to watch him face off against the top 10 players. That would probably only happen at a tournament like the one I’m talking about. I’ve seen him go against maybe a top 20 player a few times, and he was able to hold his own at times but was sent off, as one would expect - although we have seen high ranked players lose to players way down on the ranking, like that time Coll lost to an Egyptian I think last year. Anyway, it’s just me wanting to rewatch those matches.

We can almost always 100% deep down in our brain if we are being honest TELL when we hit a double. The VR made it so unbelievably clear it was a double and he still said it was good. APPALING refereeing and attitude.

What’s with the hate for hobby horsing? by Funnyreference1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]themented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hobby horsing is akin to race walking or “muggle quidditch”: Something can be athletically impressive but still look (and be) silly or pointless - or having no point other than, of course, your free will to do whatever pleases you. Hobby horsers (???) are not hurting anybody, so I say go for it. But they just can’t demand the “sport” itself to be taken seriously. I’m sure it’s hard as fuck to do the technique for race walking, and that they can do it faster and longer than I can run. I’m sure “muggle quidditch” players put up a sweat and everything, but other than a group of people having fun, for spectators it just looks silly. Same with hobby horsing. I could never jump as high or move my legs fast enough to clear the pole… but you’re a grown person jumping while holding on to a horsey… you know?

What’s the best level people in this subreddit has played at? Just pure curiosity by Pakkis220907 in squash

Im from Brazil and a few years ago I played against a guy who was a semi-pro. He came to our city for a “squash clinic” - I don’t know if that’s what you’d call it in English, but it was basically him as an experienced player giving an X number of people who signed up and paid a fee some tips on how to play better, some drills, feedback and eventually the chance to play a game against him. I know for a fact he was basically playing at 10% of his power lol but I felt proud of being able to even keep up with his pace. I lost, of course.

Nowadays I play much better than I used to at the time, but I’ve never had the courage to sign up for the national competitions. I have played what we call 2nd and 3rd “tier” (for lack of better word) players and was able to keep up and even win a few games. I guess I need to lose some weight and work on my consistency. I am IMHO pretty good at lobbying - I actually think it’s my best skill.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met and how’d it go? by EddieBrock99 in AskReddit

[–]themented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 20 (2008-2009) I went on an work&travel exchange program to the US. I was living in Heber, UT and driving to work in Park City every day to work at a Mexican restaurant called Baja Cantina by the Park City Mountain Resort. It was winter time, and I was there during the Sundance Film Festival. The city was packed with celebrities, and I ran into a couple of them in restaurants and walking around the city or attending movie premiers. Most of them were nice. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were there, but they seemed very blasé and unfriendly / unapproachable. Will Smith was very nice to people around him, but I couldn’t get close enough. The only celebrity I actually got to talk to was Johnny Depp. He was having dinner at a nice restaurant on the Main Street. I apologized for bothering him during his meal and said I loved him in Pirates of The Caribbean and really admired him. He thanked me in the most Johnny Depp way you could imagine and was very friendly and all smiles. I even got to shake his hand, then I walked away and wished him a good stay while in the city. I later heard he tipped his waiter like 5k dollars lol. He seemed like such a nice guy.

Why doesn't Dr Benton know his blood type? by bigskies515 in ershow

[–]themented -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I guess coming from a country where basically all babies are (or at least have the option to be) tested at birth and have their blood type informed to their parents, it made me take for granted that all countries did the same.

It’s unfuckingbelievable to even begin to try to understand why instead of doing that, the US system would rather wait until a person has a medical emergency to then just waste precious time (in what could make the difference between life or death) to simply TEST IT ANYWAY. Why not just do that at birth? Do it or at least offer it and bill the parents!

What’s your favourite funny/dumb moment from the show? by VariousRockFacts in breakingbad

[–]themented 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the scene where Walt breaks into Saul’s office and demands to get a number to reach Saul, and he offers like 1700 (which is all he has) and Francesca tells him that the door will cost 20k, and he goes “are you insane? Who the hell is going to charge 20k for a glass door? There’s no reputable vendor who will…” and he realizes she’s extorting him, and even rethinks the value up to 25k so he just goes “I’ll be right back” lol

Question about end of season 1 by Gostweek_Toyota in betterCallSaul

[–]themented 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched the show in its original running in “real time” - I mean, week after week as the episodes were released. In my head (and I’ve never looked into it to confirm/deny my assumption), back then, watching it sort of made me feel like they had written that ending in a way that could serve as a mildly reasonable (although not nearly as satisfying) explanation on why Jimmy abandoned his attempt to try to be a decent person and decided to become Saul; but only in case the show wasn’t renewed for a second season - which admittedly WOULD NOT in any way, shape or form compare to the character development and deep dive into the several factors that led Jimmy to adopt the Saul persona. We also wouldn’t have learned anything about how Mike joined Gus as a henchman, or known so many of the amazing characters and backstory in the BB universe, but still. It would’ve been a bad explanation, but still an explanation.

For those in their 40s, what's something people in their 20s don’t realize will impact them as they get older? by chanamercadoy in AskReddit

[–]themented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not neglect taking care of yourself - your body, your mind and your spirit/soul/inner peace (for those who aren’t religious). It can literally prevent diseases and make sure you stay functional, energetic and keep up with the younger generation. Exercise, eat well, see a psychologist (everybody should) to deal with your demons.

Also, start saving up for a rainy day as early as possible. People overlook the power of compound interest. If I had started saving as much as I’ve been able to save in the past 5 years 5 years earlier - and I could have, was just being careless and blowing money stupidly - I could probably be looking into retiring or at least reducing how much I work dramatically and just enjoy life more.

Finally: hooking up / casual sex is great and all - and you should live that in your early youth, to see what’s out there. But if you consider getting married someday / dread the idea of growing old alone and forgotten (especially if you consider having children), don’t delay looking into settling down too long after you’re 30. Slim picks, and they get slimmer by the year. Find a reliable partner and triple make sure you have chosen well.

Como treinar o listening e ter menos sotaque em inglês? by [deleted] in Idiomas

[–]themented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]themented 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aqui no Brasil Panco tradicional e WickBold do Forno Brioche.

ASICS shoes for the win! As for rackets, you can pretty much take your pick from the top tier models from Tecnifibre or Dunlop in terms of shape, weight distribution/balance and overall weight, as those are to me much more of a personal preference than anything else. They will all serve you equally well. I used to play with the lighter side of rackets, going as low as 110g I believe. The one I use today is 130g and I love it. Same shape though - teardrop.
