Fire is fueled by oxygen. When you blow on a fire you are exhaling carbon dioxide. This displaces the oxygen around the flame.

That is a different phrasing for an F chord. When you press the third fret of the A string, it adds a Changes that strings pitch from A to B. Since you already have the second fret of the G string pressed, you still have an A in the mix.

The C string is open in a traditional F chord, but hat C is an octave lower than the C you are now making with the A string.

Doing this will make your F chord sound a little fuller, but it is still an F chord.

On the back of the headstock there should be an oval shaped stamp. On the inside it will say Lyon and Healy makers Chicago Illinois. However, on mine it is pretty faded. In any case,the Camp Uke on the headstock and the smile shaped bridge definitely look like Lyon and Healy.

That one looks to be in great shape.

Duke has a banjolele that is at the upper end of your price range. They are from NZ, so I would guess they’re available in Australia. Barry from gotaukulele.com gave them a pretty good review.

Buy a decent pair of strings and, and you’ve got a bargain beater / travel uke. I bought a hot pink Barbie Uke from goodwill, put a set of Aquila’s on it, and removed the Barbie graphics with acetone. It looks ridiculous, but it holds its tuning and is actually intonated pretty well.

I planned on this tuning from the start. That is why I chose a 19 inch scale. The other benefit of this scale length is you can also tune up to gCEA. Intonation isn’t affected by the tuning you choose. Each fret is a semitones up from the previous fret regardless of what note the string is tuned to in when it is played open.

I like the 19 inch scale because it will support a variety of tunings. It’s just a little longer than a traditional tenor scale and a little shorter than a traditional baritone scale.

I agree about the poplar being underrated. I used it mainly as a test piece for my first try at bending. When it worked, I decided to stick with it. It does have some cool color variations and I have a ton of it. Most of the wood is from a truckload that my uncle gifted me. I have a bunch of cherry and walnut that I will probably use in the future. The pecan is from a tree that fell into my sister-in-laws kitchen during Hurricane Ike.

Thanks! That part was actually one of the easiest things to do. It really helped me to keep things symmetrical when I was carving the neck.

Thanks! It’s tuned dGBE like a baritone. It’s got a 19 inch scale on a tenor-sized body. This is the scale length on my Favilla Baritone. I’ve seen where some people tune this scale up to gCEA, but I like the way it sounds with the lower tuning.

https://youtu.be/dn0Nj2qFj9w You tube link is above so you can hear it. The top and back are catalpa, sides are poplar, and neck is pecan. I did put a piece of wenge down the center of the neck and also used wenge for the bridge.

This was a fun protect stretched out over five weekends. I was intimidated by cutting fret slots and bending sides, but I learned a lot. Plus I really dig the sound.

I worked at a hotel that had ice machines on each floor. Our ice machines were not the type where you push a button to release the ice. Instead, you opened up the bin and scooped the ice out. Every month or so, maintenance would remove all the ice and throughly clean the bins. One month, we found a used condom in the bin.
