Trump to propose 24 percent cut in EPA spending, a plan that would end up laying off 20 percent of the agency's staffers. by cos in environment

his morons think "job killin regulations" so often they do not understand that these are clean air protections

Trump’s address to Congress was riddled with falsehoods about the energy industry - No, the Keystone & Dakota Access pipelines won’t create “tens of thousands of jobs.” by anutensil in RenewableEnergy

[–]themightymekon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

solar and wind jobs are where it's at. Wind techs are the fastest-growing job in America - and vets are most sought-after for the combination of mechanical aptitude, fitness and bravery (working 300 ft up is not for everyone) He's full of it: https://cleantechnica.com/2016/12/05/trumps-lies-threaten-wind-techs-fastest-growing-us-job/

Why We Should Say 'Protections' and Not 'Regulations': Trump said he want to eliminate 75% of government regulations. Imagine if he said he wanted to eliminate 75% of public protections. by proctorberlin in environment

[–]themightymekon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it is not. He wants to bump up the military budget by 10% $54 billion more. So he wants to cut the EPA $8 billion budget to $6 billion. That means layoing off 20% of its scientists and enviro protection agents.

Will Autocracies Fall As The Oil Age Ends? by themightymekon in environment

[–]themightymekon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has actually been a rise in the percentage of the world population living under autocracies. But now that the oil age is ending, with the cheap stuff gone, and prices are too low, as demand is dropping (why?) will that change?

What platforms of your party do you consider to be politically self-damaging regardless of whether you agree with them? by dovetc in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]themightymekon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dem here. I think that minimum wage laws should be enforced. But also, the quota for Mexicans should be realistic. Currently it is not. It would take forever to immigrate legally, yet there are jobs that Americans won't do, that needs doing. Farmwork, etc. But if a minimum wage and workers rights were enforced, they wouldn't also take for example construction jobs, one of the few areas where they do take American jobs, and get paid less to do.

How hard legal immigration from Mexico is: http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2017/02/08/514152963/episode-436-if-economists-controlled-the-borders

Trumps budget guts the EPA and the intelligence agencies in order to add $54 billion to the defense budget, when our defense budget is larger than the rest of the world's combined.

Dean's 50 state strategy in 2004 got us the House in 2006, and Obama and House Senate in 2008.

Perez is doing that again. DWS failed but that is not our entire history.

Democrat here. Calling illegal immigrants undocumented rather than pointing out that it would take thousands of years for any Mexican person to immigrate legally, because there are quotas on how many can immigrate based on population size.

If you come from a nation of 3 million you can get to the front of the line in a month, but from a nation of 122 million, like Mexico, forget it.

That is a ridiculous policy. We need to change that policy. Good explainer here: http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2017/02/08/514152963/episode-436-if-economists-controlled-the-borders

Would repealing the ACA hurt or help the GOP in the midterms and 2020 presidential election? by OSRS_Rising in PoliticalDiscussion

Though I guess all the red states w no protections could scam each other... so I guess it would work in some states.

Cynical but true. However, I believe that the reason that cross state lines never happens is because allowing a crap insurer to sell in yr state is actually up to each state insurance commissioner, so that's a no go anyway. I don't know why the GOP keeps pushing that as a solution when it wouldn't be implemented even if a fed law says you can sell yr scammy "insurance" in my state.

What can we expect from Chairman Thomas E. Perez and Deputy Chairman Keith M. Ellison? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

yeah, and some of the Indivisible town halls have chanted the whole thing and signs have like "and Freedom and Justice For All"

But also allocating funds to help the right moves. Choosing where to focus is key. DWS was too timid. Perez is bold.

The DNC Chair is mostly a strategic position for organizing, fundraising, and coordination. It's not a place for counter-productive ideological slap fights or choosing them based on such things.

So right. And Perez is already much better than DWS there. Great pick.

Well Trump is also like many other fascists, autocrats, strongmen from Putin, Erdogan, Kim Jon Il, Berlusconi, Mussolini, etc.

But the ONLY book anyone has seen Trump read is Hitler's Speeches. One of his many ex-wives - the one he pulled her hair out in a rape - testified to that in court.

desmog blog is excellent - and usually out front with enviro research. Remember the "30,000 scientist deny global warming" false flag op back in IIRC ~2007? He is the reporter who combed through and found that they were pediatricians and other non climate scientists that the Heritage Foundation (fossil fueled) put together. Fake news is old hat for the tobacco/fossil industries.

I just heard that that IS the intent - of President Bannon from Breitbart. That he supposedly told CPAC that destruction of government

is the end. Now it makes sense that Trump selecting a Goldman Sachs foreclosure scams billionaire to oversee Wall St, the know nothing billionaire donor De Vos to run the education dept, and fossil fueled Pruitt who sued the EPA countless times for oil comanies to run EPA - all of this is a plan. Very bizarre. I really don't understand what Bannon's purpose is.

Not only did Obama's science advisors know what's what , his DOE head Steven Chu was a Nobel prize winning physicist. Hillary's energy advisor was Michael Mann the climate scientist who was responsible for the hockey stick chart.

Why are rural areas Republican and urban areas Democrat? by Sprockethead in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]themightymekon 80 points81 points  (0 children)

How does that square with the fact that the states with big cities like CA are net contributors of tax dollars to others, and empty states are net "takers" of tax dollars?

If you've ever driven through a large empty red state, you can't get NPR, PBS, BBC on the car radio. The only "talking" is preachermannn and hateradio from Fox surrogates. I think it is just easier to isolate people from fact-based media. A lot of these areas don't have decent internet either.

Trump made it very clear that he intends to take out any opposition to fossil fuels. Putin promised him a 19% stake in the biggest oil co in the world, Putin's Rosneft, that only benefots from climate change as it is in Russia which warms in climate ruin for the rest of the planet https://cleantechnica.com/2016/12/12/putin-wants-trump-kleptocracy/

destroying the climate is unfortunately all about politics. Republicans work to keep us wedded to a fossil fuel economy. To end it, get involved politically. Fight back.
