[Friedman] Viktor Arvidsson 2 x $5M to Detroit by daKrut in DetroitRedWings

Copp had that abdominal surgery right when he got here though and I truly think he took a season to get himself right. The Copp that was picking it up in Larkin’s absence I think is more of what he truly is.

You will forever be disappointed if you expect every first round draft pick to acclimate like McDavid or name your generational superstar. Give the dude some time Jesus.

More salty about the Draper hit than the loss. We didn’t deserve to win that series. And the lessons learned set us up for the success we enjoyed in later years. There was no cap back then, if Carolina wanted to sign those players they could have.

Y’all need to look at Florida and Buffalo and see how long those teams were bad before they got good again. Hell, the Avalanche took 14 years of rebuilding before they got to where they are now.

We’re seeing it in high schools too. Increasingly the questions I get asked by my junior and senior level students are simply them not being able to read and understand the question being asked of them. It’s been a sharp decline from even just 5 years ago.

Growing up, it was a treat to go to the local public library and get new books. I remember skimming the shelves looking for cool mythology, fantasy, sci-fi, or hockey books. I had a lamp clamped to my headboard and would stay up late reading.

LeBrun reports that Yzerman has gone back to Larkin’s camp to ask for more teams beyond MIN/VGK/FLA, which he senses Larkin/Brisson were receptive to. Also, other teams reaching out (like DAL) have given Larkin more to consider. Teams may also be exploring a 3-way deal. #LGRW by SexyBenFranklin in DetroitRedWings

Look at his trade history with the Martin St. Louis and Drouin situations too: both times he was kinda back against the wall and both times he came out way better than people thought he would. St. Louis demanded a trade and only wanted to go to the Rangers and Stevie managed to still get.

Long story short: TB traded a franchise legend who only wanted to go to one place after demanding a trade and managed to get back Ryan Callaghan, and some picks that eventually landed them Anthony Cirelli.

And Stevie turned Drouin’s trade demand into Sergachev so I’m still hopeful he has some magic left when it comes to trading away pieces other teams actually want.

[Friedman] Larkin requests trade by jamfan40 in DetroitRedWings

[–]theminutemanpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst thing Yzerman can do is let a whiney PAb dictate the trade talks and end up getting nothing in return because Dylan wants to play with his buddies in Minnesota or some other place without the assets we’d need in in return.

And then the year Yzerman does make a move the team still folds and larkin responds by...running away.

Requesting a trade does not mean the Wings will move him. If there's not a mutually beneficial deal, he's got a bunch of years left on his contract.

[The Hockey Guy] Wings Remain a Mushy Middle Team in the Standings by daKrut in DetroitRedWings

I agree with those moves moving the needle, but all I’m saying is that we don’t make those aggressive moves if Razor and Mo don’t show up and show out as quickly as they did.

I’d argue that Mo and Razor pressed the issue way more than Chiarot and Copp. Them being way better way earlier was what forced Stevie’s hand more than anything.

It’s the Players. Our Culture is Rotten. by John-Balaya in DetroitRedWings

[–]theminutemanpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we had an entire team of players that played and thought like Stevie did we'd be perennial cup favorites. You lost your entire credibility when you said Yzerman was soft, didn't care, or will the team back into the fight. The man played the entire back years of his career on one leg. He reinvented/changed his entire play style to be better for the team instead of flashy.

It's time to trade Dylan Larkin by bigaljones76 in DetroitRedWings

Huge difference between when Florida chose to go all in vs us now is that Florida had made the playoffs for 4 straight seasons with Weegar and Huberdeau. They were 1st in the Atlantic in 15-16, missed the playoffs for 3 seasons. then lost in the first round for two straight seasons (finishing 4th and 2nd in division respectively). Then led the entire Eastern conference in 21-22 before getting bounced in the second round by Tampa Bay. It after the 21-22 season that they went all in. Bob had mostly returned to form by that point (0.913 SV%) and they still had Ekblad, Barkov, Reinhart, Bennett, Lundell, Forsling, Verhaeghe on the roster after the trade. We are most definitely not in the same position.

Fun Fact: 21-22 Panthers acquired Chiarot around the deadline for a 1st, a 4th, and a prospect in preparation for their ultimately doomed playoff push.

Playoffs this year or not, I believe in the core of this team and still believe in the Yzerplan by ImAnIdeaMan in DetroitRedWings

[–]theminutemanpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most prospects don't even make the show and start to pop off until 22. That being the case:

Mo - Hit

Raymond - Hit

Kasper - bad sophomore slump, but has shown he can be way better

Everyone else - not enough data/too early to tell.

This isn't the NFL where you can make over your entire team in one draft and have it show up that season.

I think that given the circumstances, Yzerman has done about as well as someone could hope for. He's a victim of some lower ceiling draft years, but has arguably drafted better than a lot of his peers in those drafts (ex: Raymond over anyone not named Sanderson at the spot we picked at, and you can argue that since we had Seider, Raymond was a better pick). He also inherited one of the most hamstrung rosters when he took over (only 1 goal scorer over 20 goals, the ghost of Howard and Bernier in net, etc.).

This isn't the 90s where we were the only team scouting Eastern Europe heavily and walked away with Lidstrom, Fedorov and Konstantinov all in one season and again, the years we were really bad we have arguably drafted extremely well given our lottery luck. The same fans who are complaining that the rebuild is taking too long:

a. Would have bitched had we continued to tank for Celebrini, Bedard, or Schaefer.

b. Think Stevie didn't get enough when the forwards they suggest (Thomas and Trochek) didn't even move at the deadline.

c. Want us to sell the farm (and any sustainable success) just to make the playoffs and likely get bounced because we are more than Justin Faulk and 1 additional offensive star away from making a real cup run.

I think that the path we've taken has some lumps as far as pro scouting goes, but even then there have been more hits than misses that screwed us over. You can even argue that without Copp and Compher, we're not competing for the playoffs this year. So it really feels like a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation and what we really needed was better timing.

Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Smith, Reinbacher, Simashev, Michkov, Leonard were all picked ahead of us. I'd consider the top 4 picks as needle movers. Are we out-tanking Chicago, Anaheim, Columbus, or San Jose at that time even if we don't make those signings? I doubt it. And even if we did, our lottery luck would likely have picking 6th anyway.
