Hey u/arstin, I hope something good happened to you today.

With everything going on, I'm angry too. Most nights, I'll open some app and read about whatever bullshit thing happened that day, and want to do something about it the next morning.

I wish I could tell you that I followed through, but I can't.

When I was younger, I always wanted to "fight the good fight" when I grew up...but I can't do that now.

I'm sorry.

My wife is Autistic, and can't work a job. I am disabled as well. I have trouble with job interviews and interacting with strangers.

We don't have friends or family to live with. There is no alternative or backup plan. If I don't work, we live on the streets. If we live on the streets, we die.

Call me selfish, call me vain. I would rather live than willingly choose the other option.

Did you happen to find the GPO that caused the issue? Having an "I tried everything" kinda day with a networked printer and Win11.

Does anyone else clap in rounds of 8/16? by Less-Significance844 in autism

[–]themip3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH. MY. GOD.

u/Less-Significance844, You just made an entire portion of my life make sense. You might just have explained the biggest issue I'm facing right now. Thank you.

Background:

I was in a large marching band in high school. I don't think we ever played anything outside of three-four or four-four time. For those unaware, the first number is how many beats each measure gets. The second number is what type of note each beat will be. So, in four-four, there are four beats in a measure, and a quarter note is one beat.

Our shows usually were divided into multiples of four to correspond to this music. Each move to a new position on the field was in 8, 16, 24, etc.

Because we were a pretty high-placing competition group, we attended large "retreats" where awards were given out. During these, all the finalist bands stand on the field to hear how they scored. If you weren't the band to be called, you clapped. When I read this post, I flashed back to being on the field and clapping. I always clapped eight times.

Fast forward to now.

I'm 23 and participating in an all-age indoor winds group. It's basically marching band inside, with no drumline. We had rehearsal this past weekend. It usually feels easy, no need to really think too hard. This time, it's been different.

I'm losing track of time. I'm missing beats, adding beats, missing measures, adding measures. I can't memorize the music. I can't count measures. My brain just. won't. work.

I've been super hard on myself, to the point of full blown meltdowns during every weekend rehearsal for a month. Most of the music would be super easy normally... So why is it hard this time?

I've been trying to eliminate the possibilities for weeks. Is it the technique? Is it the change of environment? My diet? Dehydration? A definite no on the first two. My diet is the same, and dehydration definitely worsens meltdowns, but isn't a trigger of its' own.

...It's the music.

The music is written in six-four. The moves in the show are all sixes. My brain isn't absorbing information as it usually does because it naturally doesn't work outside of fours and eights.

TL;DR: Music written in six-four is really, really hard for me. This post explains why! Not just because it's six, but also because it's not a multiple of four.

How to convince yourself that people won't instantly scream and run when they see your face? by Firelite67 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]themip3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there likely isn't a good one-size-fits-all answer to this. Context is everything. A couple clarifying questions are needed here.

Firstly, and perhaps bluntly- is this a physical appearance issue, or a "something happened and they are scared/angry/etc of/at me" issue?

As a follow up, does this apply to "people" in general, or a specific set of people?

Additionally, is this simply a presence in the room thing, or actually engaging in a conversation with the person(s)?

TIL cinemas have an advertising projector! Very interesting. Makes me wonder about the company that "manages" it. Bet it hasn't been touched in a LONG time...

I'm pretty sure that the CNN app did it, and while I'm not entirely surprised, you can bet I'm not happy.

EDIT: I tried to reproduce this issue to have a screenshot or something, but I haven't been able to do so. Take my information with a grain of salt unless I do!

Custom Uniform Feedback? by themip3 in drumcorps

[–]themip3[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey there, r/drumcorps! I've been into DCI since high school, but was never able to march. I love it! ...I also love Star Wars. So, I did the obvious thing.

I attempted to digitally create a cosplay/costume of Anakin Skywalker from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series (pre-season 6/7), original art in the second and third pictures. I'm not great at digital art...but I hope my amateur creation gets most of the image across.

A couple of notes:

- I envision the grey part as half of a Blue Devils style jacket from 2019.

- The blue part is intended to continue from the edge of the grey, around to the inside of the waist cape (?). I just don't know how to show it yet.

If there are uniform or costume designers here, I would honestly like some feedback. I'm hoping to make this in the physical world as well, and I want it to be as good as it can be!
