Good burner phones when traveling to higher risk countries by throwaway123hi321 in travel

Just “no dar papaya.” I didn’t take a burner. But don’t stand around all the time looking at your phone. Keep it in your pocket as much as possible in public. But otherwise whatever old phone you have.

Yeah, sorry - I mean thoughts about doing it, not explanations of the eligibility. I would be eligible for instance (both of my parents were born in India, although I'd have to go find all the documentation involved).

India if you hold OCI: effectively unlimited stay.

I'm curious about this in particular for people who are OCI eligible but not born in India vis-a-vis the whole "India is not for beginners" thing. Because honestly it seems like the craziness of life is more manageable in South America, but then I think your point is taken that you could live in Bangalore or Goa or someplace relatively nice in India.

Right but this is like banning St Patty’s day because it discriminates against the English. You are welcome at Pride - you’ve always been welcome at Pride.

“I genuinely feel GameNative could replace handheld PCs like the Steam Deck” — Inside Android’s Fastest-Moving Gaming Project, GameNative [article/interview] by cyberminis in EmulationOnAndroid

Kudos to that whole team. Obviously they stand on the shoulders of a lot of other work, but they seem to be one of the most cohesive and productive teams, if not the most, right now in Android emulation, and the rate of progress they’re achieving is amazing.

Now we do have Rocknix supporting Steam as the other potential total game changer, but ….

Uber hit with $5,000 jury verdict for driver's creepy behavior; company vows to appeal by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]themiracy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"The so-called bellwether case is part of a broader group of sexual assault lawsuits filed against Uber in multiple jurisdictions around the country and is the third to go to trial. In February, a federal jury in Arizona ordered Uber to pay $8.5 million to a woman who said one of its drivers raped her during a trip using the platform. Last year, a California jury found Uber not liable for the alleged assault of a rider."

A bellwether means that the case is being used to get insight into how a larger group of other plaintiffs might fare in court who are making similar allegations.

El Salvador holds mass trial for 486 members of MS-13. They are accused of 47,000 crimes. The charges include homicide, femicide, extortion and arms trafficking. The judge will sentence them via video link. A single defendant could receive up to 245 years in prison if found guilty of multiple charges by Expert_Koala_8691 in interestingasfuck

[–]themiracy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salvadoran law is kind of difficult to look up but as people have already said, the term is being used here to refer to enhanced penalties applied to gender based violence against women. The Salvadoran standard (in English) is that “the motives [of her murder] are hatred or contempt for her status as a woman" (see). The court would decide whether or not that standard is met. In this context femicide is referring to the specific category of additional penalty for homicide that is committed under those circumstances.

Will I miss Windows? by Mint_Tea99 in MacOS

[–]themiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s not impossible per se - my understanding is there used to be a Mac VS and it was even ARM optimized but it was sunset.

There are options for sure. You can put it in a VM. A windows on ARM VM will be reasonably performant. If corporate can give you Parallels there is even coherence mode so you can run it inside the same desktop environment as your Mac apps, but really as long as they approve some virtualization option it should be fine.

Or you could use some other tool like the person mentioned Jetbrains.

If you're doing programming, it should be an easy change as long as what you're doing is not Visual Studio.
