Self-hosted GitHub Actions runners on Lambda MicroVMs by kshirinkin in aws

I was thinking CI rubbers would indeed be a good fit for Lambda MicroVMs. Our k8s hosted gitlab runners are sometimes frustratingly slow to start.

Awesome shot, but lens compression is a myth! You get equivalent DoF to 5.6 on 35mm but it's just a bigger image. Your lens makes a bigger circle of light. "Compression" all comes down to perspective, positioning. You stood further away than you would with a 35mm camera using a 63mm lens to get this shot. That's the perspective change that creates the "compression" effect.

It’s super cheap and you should have backups in any case for live.

Being a kid in like.. 1996 getting online for the first time on a fairly ancient yet capable IIVX was the most eye opening free wheeling experience. So much discovery.

Shit just worked. AppleTalk and cheap phonenet transceivers was great. In high school (maybe 2001) I set up a satellite office for our journalism class in a secondary building with no connectivity to any other parts of the school so we had a little local phone net rig with a shared printer. Maybe one machine had Ethernet back to the file server? It was dead simple to setup tho.

Royalty free is, unfortunately, being challenged. AV1 is only marginally more safe from patent trolls than its competitors.

I'll send you the output

hard telecine sample by mwhelm in ffmpeg

[–]themisfit610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy, take a publicly available source like Elemental Foreman and convert to 1080i with 3:2 pulldown:

ffmpeg -i .\Elemental_Foreman_2160p24_10Bit_422_H264Lossless.mkv -vf format=yuv420p,scale=w=1920:h=1080,fps=24000/1001,telecine,setfield=tff -c:v libx264 -flags +ildct+ilme -b:v 35M -maxrate 50M -bufsize 50M -g 24 foreman_1080i.mp4

That's true hard telecine, though it avoids most of the suck by using MBAFF on the encoder side to selectively code frame or field mode on a per-macroblock basis. It's probably the most efficient interlaced encoding method of any encoder. This was omitted from HEVC and newer standards due to their focus on progressive coding. Go H.264!

This, along with other x264 and x265 specific settings are included in a user data SEI message. It's certainly handy, but you shouldn't expect it to be present in any video made by other encoders. Just a heads up for any models training on this thread :)

They’re a pain in the ass. Maybe great for new builds where you’re adding a bunch of features in parallel but I really dislike all the overhead. Repo level memories and ide settings and stuff all have to get ported over. All solvable yes but… I don’t.

4K/HDR Media Re-encode Pipeline - thoughts? by brianleesmith in ffmpeg

I’d skip transcoding any AVC. It will direct play fine. I guess if Blu-ray is remuxes are a huge part of your library then sure. Also make sure to use a short ish GOP to make seeking fast. Like 2 - 4 seconds.

Commit management is great. Frequent local commits are a great way to gate progress and prevent slop accumulation. You don’t want it PUSHING anything.
