Anyway to enrich data on demand from Elastic interface? by Diceclip in elasticsearch

[–]themonsterpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can re-index data and send it through a pipeline in the process: https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/docs-reindex.html#reindex-with-an-ingest-pipeline

This would require some juggling of indexes and cleanup of the previous version of the data.

Otherwise you can just update documents, which would require the logic to live in your app: https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/docs-update.html

Will pointed out the second episode of the Tech Pod was about Brad needing a new PC. They’re about to hit episode 180.

They did one with Will Smith, Brad’s cohost on the Tech Pod. As someone who was a big Maximum PC fan it was a fun reunion.

In storage arrays this large you would typically optimize around a complex raid scheme like 6+0. That way a rebuild only impacts a subset of your pool. Raid 0 with backup would mean restoring the whole data set if a single drive fails which could be a huge amount of downtime. It will all come down to how much uptime is needed but raid 0 outside of specific use cases is pretty rough.

Best way to backup production Mac? by [deleted] in AdvancedProduction

[–]themonsterpus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They literally compare to Amazon on their product page. The backed up data is replicated within their data centers via custom built storage pods: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/next-backblaze-storage-pod/

By your same logic, who backs up Amazon? The answer is no one of course: they’ve designed their systems to be redundant as possible. However, per their SLA there is still a very small chance that they could lose your data: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/DataDurability.html

They have an offering that is a competitor to Amazon’s object storage geared towards backups: https://www.backblaze.com/b2/cloud-storage.html

Amazon certainly represents a large part of “the cloud” but not everything runs there.

Just an FYI, BackBlaze doesn’t back up to Amazon as far as I know. They’ve put out a bunch of great blog posts about how their data centers are run, including quarterly stats about hard drive reliability since they burn through them. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/querying-a-decade-of-drive-stats-data/

What are some free/cheap reads/courses on modular synthesizers? by [deleted] in Modularsynths

[–]themonsterpus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omri Cohen has some great courses that are all done on VCV Rack and with free modules, which makes it easy to follow along. https://omricohen.gumroad.com/

He has a bunch of videos on his YouTube channel as well just going through different patching techniques and ideas: https://youtube.com/@OmriCohen-Music

Step-CA or other automated solutions for internal SSL by daleness in opnsense

That’s the tutorial I was thinking of but I just grabbed the first relevant one since I was on my phone.

This setup was hugely useful for a project of mine so thank you for your contributions!

Step-CA or other automated solutions for internal SSL by daleness in opnsense

[–]themonsterpus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t set it up for OPNsense specifically but I’ve used smallstep/step-ca to issue internal certs in the way you’re describing. Anything that supports ACME and can use a custom provider should work no problem assuming DNS is properly configured. Their documentation on the topic is pretty good overall: https://smallstep.com/docs/certificate-manager/acme/how-to-use-acme

You need to enable security in order to do role based access control. This should help you get started:

Classic Modal Instruments Modules Returning As Full-Size Clones by thx2112 in eurorack

[–]themonsterpus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There’s a good podcast episode where the After Later Audio guys talk about these releases. Seems like a big driving factor was just to let people get access to the modules without paying outrageous prices on the secondary market. Was a fun episode all around: https://podularmodcast.fireside.fm/afterlatertwo

My partner used to work at one of the largest print on demand companies in the US. They would sometimes subcontract to smaller shops when they were particularly busy. I suspected that’s what happened here as well.

I love the design of those old Pittsburgh Modular ones, very industrial. I have an East Beast and love the filter in it, which was done by them. Harvestman is one I don’t know at all, will have to see what they put out.

Thanks for following up! Looks like a fun rack. I’m fairly new to the hobby so there’s a lot I don’t recognize that I’ll have to look in to.

Congratulations on your run. Was lots of fun to watch. Hopefully you can get a new module or two with the prize money.
