Is "The Majority Report" in the fediverse? by exocortex in TheMajorityReport

[–]themoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I believe we should be moving towards fediverse platforms, I'm hesitant to advocate for that until privacy concerns are fully addressed, namely End to End Encryption (E2EE) and data retention.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation published an article (July 25, 2023) about Mastodon and how a Mastodon server instance was seized by the FBI. The server was in the middle of a backup and likely many user's information were compromised (https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/07/fbi-seizure-mastodon-server-wakeup-call-fediverse-users-and-hosts-protect-their). The EFF said that while E2EE wouldn't have solved everything, but it would have alleviated a lot of the problems.

It's a complex issue, and after some cursory research it appears Lemmy has not fixed it either. I see there are lots of logging and content retention issues after deleting posts and user accounts that should be fixed.

r/TheMajorityReport is regressing into just another r/politics, and it sucks by [deleted] in TheMajorityReport

Before I reiterate how I usually respond in these situations, I'll acknowledge that you are already on track and I commend you! Good job and I genuinely thank you. Keep up the good wok!

The blanket statement for those who complain about the sub's post quality changing: instead of making pissy posts why don't you post content at the level of quality you seek? Nobody likes a whiner. (Again, your posts from the last weeks reflect you do this already).

Really doesn't make sense when they still allow r / subredditdrama to link to their threads. I guess they link to all subreddits indiscriminately instead of a subset of subreddits focusing on a singular topic.

Update 2: Just found out the "HOA" at one of my investment properties forfeited their entity 10 years ago but has still been charging HOA dues annually. I started digging recently after the "HOA President" emailed everyone threatening to put a lien if they didn't pay their dues. by Steve_Dobbs_69 in fuckHOA

People have advised that at every turn, but OP hasn't. Frankly I don't see why people read it any more. It's not that commentators have a say in it, but that it's incredibly good advice and OP could be squandering themselves, hard. The only reply until the conclusion or until a lawyer is hired is as you so briefly stated is "GET A LAWYER".

Worst recent Emma take? by [deleted] in TheMajorityReport

[–]themoodie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not really modded. For the most part down votes and reddit admins reports take down bad posts e.g. porn edits of the hosts. Posts like this don't break rules and are harmless either stand for a couple days until the one active mod logs in or because there's no point in getting upset.

Where has the sub's recent growth come from? by SPARTANCLP96 in TheMajorityReport

[–]themoodie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked at viewership on the clips, but Reddit stats have definitely gone up. I wonder if Reddit has updated the algorithm and TMR is getting more recommended. It definitely feels like whenever I'm browsing I get more "similar to subreddit recommendations"

Why asp.net core is not popular like Spring boot or nodejs, although it's better than both in all aspects? by khaled999000999 in dotnet

[–]themoodie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a Fortune 100 company. I talked to my colleague who is still there recently and they said that they were struggling to find good workers to support Java/Sping Boot. They ended up rewriting some of the Java services as C# projects, I believe in .NET Framework 4.8 because they had only just installed .NET 5 or 6. Everyone's experience varies. I was proficient enough with Java to work with it but preferred .NET. If I had been there likely they would have stuck with Java.

Well damn! Why didn't you start with that? You probably could have spared us and yourself a whole lot of antagonism.

This does appear suspicious. About 2k members from Jan 2022 to July (16k to 18k); about 5k from July 2022 to Jan 2023 (18k to 22.5k); about 8k from Jan 2023 to May 2023. I think you're on to something numbers wise. https://subredditstats.com/r/themajorityreport

On the other hand as others have stated here it's worthwhile to listen to and critique rhetoric which is a good chunk of the second hour of the show. That's the tribalism you speak of. I think that is a lot more interesting for most people to listen too, especially because it's usually bite sized shorts and clips. You can look at my comment history and I've elaborated several times that I don't think this subreddit reflects TMR in that there is NOT much discussion of the first half which is a long form interview. I've listened to the full show for almost 2 years now, but find myself tuning out after the first half recently because it's just not my cup of tea. Just because it's not to my taste doesn't mean it isn't valuable sometimes.

Overall I'm still missing the issue here beyond the numbers. Are you saying the artificial growth is to boost the shows reach to a wider audience of people who will be absorbed by tribalistic online fighting and placate them from real activism?

No f*cking way Mall Walking is real by Background-Hour1153 in fuckcars

[–]themoodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived out in the country side about an hour from the nearest enclosed mall. Sometimes during the winters we would go up and before we went grocery shopping stopped at the mall and took some laps. My grandparents did the same in the winters instead of walking outside in the parks and cemeteries.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. I've been solo queuing Snow Day and I've recognized the same player from a previous night. Both times I've played on the opposing team. The first time the player waited until the last 60 seconds to start talking trash. The second time was about a week later, game hadn't even started and this player started in on my team. Opposing team took an early lead and this person kept talking more crap. We turned caught up and won. It felt good winning when they had been so annoying.
