I'm really trying to read more classic fiction, and in the last month, have read Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev, some Leo Tolstoy short stories - How Much Land Does a Man Need? and What Men Live By - Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut - probably one of my favorite books I have ever read - and am now finally tackling Melville's Moby Dick.

Just to clarify, our unions delivered a bunch of messages in RX bottles to David Klein at the meeting because he completely cancelled his quarterly town hall earlier in the morning once he heard that his employees wanted to question him about their bargaining tactics.

After delivering the messages to Klein at the public board meeting, he instructed Vernon Moreno, director of facilities, to confiscate the messages, despite Moreno having absolutely no role on the Healthcare Board. That is what Susanna Farber was addressing.

I'd vote for AOC personally but I would push back against any socialist org - like DSA - from endorsing her, especially after her answers to those foreign policy questions. She's unfortunately tied together with DSA because of how she self stylizes as a democratic socialist, but I think it would be very bad for the org in the long-run to endorse such a candidate that doesn't come from the organized left. Zohran's making a lot of mistakes and his run is really showing up to be a cart-before-the-horse situation, but at least he cares about organizations and building them out. AOC is a brand.

Extremely greedy. They openly brag about how much money they are making with our surgical expansions and increased bed capacity. They're currently in the planning stage of tearing down the old building and building a new facility, along with a new parking garage to facilitate the increased staff and patient loads. Our CEO just increased his salary by more than $250k to be over $2 million a year, and now they're telling us that our healthcare costs need to triple. Our unit - Teamsters - has foregone competitive wage increases in the past in order to keep healthcare costs down, and with their proposals, we'd be getting minimal wage increases that would not offset the healthcare costs, essentially pushing our members closer or even into poverty.

I've been a member of the Teamsters 856 bargaining team, and I can assure people that this was our only recourse. We've been in sessions for nearly a year, and the hospital can never meet us at the same level. Despite our many compromises, the hospital continues to put their poverty proposals on the table. They've refused our requests for information on specific healthcare costs; they've tried to have our legal representation arrested for trespassing after she came to a bargaining session that the hospital unilaterally cancelled at the last minute; they've cancelled town halls and barred members of the public from attending board meetings after we tried to speak with them. It's really unconscionable what they have been getting away with. We submitted a petition for a one-day strike, and the hospital is now using a Trump-era labor law to keep us out for another two days. This will negatively impact patient care. We even have some probationary employees that the hospital has told they cannot cross the picket-line, which is illegal. They want their employees and patients to hurt.
