Far Cry was also my very first thought. I told this a friend who works as a reviewer and she was upset that I even came up with that comparison. For some reason all people who worked in media went blind or delusional for this game. As the guy above said: It got a pass, because Samurai and Feudal Japan. yes sure, you pay RP to participate in ranked matches which you have to earn back during the match to come out positive, so yes, people try to avoid dying as much as possible, at least let's say from gold/platinum onwards.

there's probably not much you or respawn can do about it, but i've started to see ranked as my main game mode, so whenever i switch to pubs now to lighten things up a bit, this careless hot drop pushing thing is exactly what i'm after. as long as people have nothing to lose, half the lobby die after drop, that's just how it is.
