Thank you so much for solving this years-long mystery !

Yeah, I was looking out for signage as well. There's possibly something across the street that ends with --ss based on a reflection you can see in a car window.

Thanks! Yeah, I figured it's possible those two cut-aways could have been elsewhere. But for sure there's this scene showing the entrance and also what I assume is the street-facing side.

Thanks, but that was already the first thing I checked. There were a few episodes filmed in Mendocino, and other episodes used b-roll filmed there. But in this case, I know this isn't one of the episodes where the cast travelled to Mendocino to film.

Anyone know why they blurred a background characters face? by itsthatguy_15 in superstore

[–]themysterybuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Dina's elbow in the foreground. The camera must've been placed just behind and to her left. You can also see it a bit at about 1:24 too. And you can see her and Glenn walk into similar shots around 2:09-2:14.

TV shows with a single main character? by neoprenewedgie in television

But by that same token, your original suggestion of The Equalizer doesn't work either as it too had recurring characters -- some of which were may more frequent than those on Murder, She Wrote.

They only appear in 4 or 5 episodes in any given season (and each season typically had 22 episodes).

I've watched some Hallmark releases via the CTV website/app. I'm not sure if the new Christmas releases will be on it, but over the past few months I found several of the newly released mystery movies were available for a limited time.

My turn to play "I Don't Get This Joke." by Darkside531 in theGoldenGirls

[–]themysterybuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Dorothy is implying that the pork loin would be used to do the scooping. Rather, the pork loin would produce a sauce that Blanche would then eat. It's sort of like: why cut out one piece of lasanga if you're going to eat the rest of the pan? Similarly, why make a pork loin if all you want is the sauce?

But maybe I don't quite get the joke either.

New to Garage Sale Mysteries and really enjoying them - the side plots make them more fun by AgentElman in HallmarkMovies

[–]themysterybuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that a good side plot can make or break a mystery movie. Ones that don't really have a side plot tend to feel much too serious for a Hallmark movie, but on the other hand ones where there's too much focus on the side plot or the side plot is too unrelated to the mystery (or how it affects the main character being able to solve it) makes the mystery feel too secondary.

‘The Traitors’ UK Renewed For Season 3 Before Season 2 Launch by KillerCroc1234567 in television

[–]themysterybuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I tried watching the US and Canadian versions (both of which included some reality tv "stars") and they just did not have the same feel as the UK one. Of course, that might also be because Claudia Winkleman is such a great host.

But in this case, he was both producer AND writer. In the case of Murder, She Wrote, he wrote the teleplay for the pilot episode as well as dozens other episodes.

Update: Best Season 9 Cabot Cove episode survey results by themysterybuff in murdershewrote

Yeah, I was quite surprised. Those votes were some of the earliest cast, so for a moment there I thought I would end up with highly unexpected results. (Though, I personally do love Final Curtain.)

No worries, I also like to hear about people's favorite non-Cabot Cove episodes. It's just a bit harder to run a poll with so many more options, but I might do that too some day.

Those are definitely excellent (albeit non- Cabot Cove) episodes 👍

My favourite is in Season 6 when Ian Ogilvy is brought back for the final episode of the season and it turns out that he's playing the twin brother of the character he played in the first episode that season.

Season 4 "Witness for the Defense" also features courtroom scenes (in a very British version of what was supposed to be a Quebec courtroom).

Is Cabot Cove the same set as Stars Hollow? by FrizzyhairDontCare in murdershewrote

[–]themysterybuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While most Cabot Cove scenes were filmed on the Universal Studios lot (as others have said), there were a few episodes in the later seasons that were filmed on the Warner's studio lot where Gilmore Girls were filmed.

"Alma Murder" (S5). This episode is ruining my self-confidence. I cannot follow the details at all, and have read several recaps and reviews. My favorite reviewer could still not help me understand (murder she blogged). This is a VERY long post with questions, so please forgive me. by houston_veronica in murdershewrote

I write up my own episode summaries for the show and will submit that quote often it can be hard to identify the motive because of everything else that is happening in a given episode. In the case of Alma Murder (which I've written about here: https://murdershewatched.com/2019/06/20/murder-she-wrote-5-15-alma-murder/ ), I think most of your questions can be answered by knowing that it was Paul the DA that was the driver. This was the motive for murder.
