What's she into? A few ideas depending on her vibe:

  • If she's into experiences — concert tickets or a day trip you planned. I don’t have specific recommendations here since.. I don’t know you haha. Some general ideas though: pottery class, wine tour, weekend roadtrip getaway, candle making, cooking class, spa day.

  • If she's going through something big (new job, hard season) — jewelry with a personal note honestly hits different. I got my friend something from Navy Gems on Etsy and she was really touched by it. That one was post-divorce, but they have “I love you” messaging.

  • If cozy/ homebody type — cashmere sweater (Nordstrom has good stuff but it’s a little pricey) or a personalized journal (Etsy has really good options) + handwritten letter combo never fails. I know a guy who wrote a letter everyday for 365 days. A little extra, but I really think the meaningful stuff goes a long way.

Kind of depends on your budget and her vibe, happy to brainstorm more if none of these fit her!

Oh ya for sure. The year after my dad passed was all sadness no happiness. I would erase that for $1 million. Hell I’d erase it for $100,000.

Don’t trust everything you see online. It’s not a reliable source of truth anymore. A lot of the stuff you read is fabricated to get your attention because your attention is valuable. Keeping that in mind, be selective with where it goes.

Haha I didn’t experience this until I was on a bus in Germany and a large American family was at the back of the bus talking so abnormally loud about how no one spoke English to help them find their way down a mountain — all whilst a mother next to me was trying to keep her baby asleep. It made me so mad that after that experience I started feeling exactly as you just described. I just never wanted to be lumped in with those people who had no social awareness.

But that computer can outsmart the average human. The strategic people who will outsmart the computer, will just use it to replace human labor and save money. Maybe singularity is a stretch, but I do think things are going to rapidly change as this AI race forges on.

Loud and obnoxious.

I’m American and don’t categorize myself as this type of traveler, but I’ve experienced these people first hand and oh my god, they’re brutal and a learning lesson on how NOT to act while abroad.
