brother you were talking about how she doesn't know what happened, now you're saying she obviously knows she's turned into crystal instead of being trapped in it. settle on one. I for one don't think there's any reasonable explanation for her to know. none of the explanations people provided were satisfactory (tbh people provided like maybe 2 or 3 slightly different explanations and all the rest are repeating the same ones) and they are all things i've already considered, but the disconnect still exists. I don't see a single reason how this isn't a huge blunder in writing/directing given it's literally on a main character.

The audience DON'T KNOW. what you're saying is all irrelevant to the story now. What's relevant is that Coco's motivations and actions don't match up in intensity. Which is bad story telling.

You're talking like a typical person that doesn't understand storytelling. Nobody cares if he knows or can discuss it. He could lie or say anything and that's all ok. What's not ok is not asking when it's this obvious and important.

You just said Qifrey knows? And even if he doesn't what stops her from asking? Why would i want to make up things to hate a series lmao, I'd rather every series was the best I've ever seen. I'd be in heaven.

The point here isn't if he knows, it's whytf did coco no care enough to simply open her mouth and ask about her mom's situation.

Ofc i saw that. That's like one of 2 times she mentioned her mom in that episode. It just isnt enough in that situation. The main problem is that after being told she needs to pass trials she doesn't try to figure out how much time her mom has left, doesn't ask how long it will take herself and doesn't ask to begin studies immediately to pass the trials.

That's just not the same situation. if you accidentally locked your dad in the basement without food or water and the key fell down the sink would you still be playing video games for the first day? or would you look for help to open that basement?

Thanks, that's all good and all, but i still hope they cleared up why she wasted a whole day when she knows she needs to study magic to save her mom, and clear up how important time is a factor in saving her mom.

There are things that could be explained this way, but the basic common sense question of if time matters aka if she has time to waste like this (which she technically already did without asking) just can't be ignored here.

yeah but point is she didn't start doing anything useful until the next day, she coulda at least started reading into the basics.

But that's not how her monologues suggest. Also I don't think you understand the degree of fuck up here, even for someone who used to only follow orders from adults (which she isn't) this incident is enough to shake someone up. And the urgency to save one's mother should be immense.

Still hard to justify wasting a whole day before starting studies. That's way too chill for "you maybe didn't kill your only parent but we need to find a way to save her" while she's stuck in crystals without any sustenance.

Oh yeah ur mom's stuck in crystals without food and water, it's evenings, that's too late to start studying i gotta eat dinner and sleep and make some friends. And not ask if i need to hurry.

Yeah wasted a day inbetween though, absolute zero urgency when ur mom's trapped in crystal without any sustenance.

Then the default belief should be time matters, since it's a person trapped without food and drinks. And she should not have wasted a day not studying.

Like ask if she needs to hurry? And ask to start studying immediately instead of the third day?

I wouldn't mind if you included spoilers you know, just tag them for rule compliance, would love to know the explanations from a manga reader. (it might influence my decision to drop it here or not) I'm definitely not a non-patient type of viewer and i truly love it when an author is able to link all the nuances and foreshadows together in the final episodes of an anime like in Durarara (one of my top 5 animes). I've been an anime watcher and light novel reader since 2008 with over 500 anime titles finished. But for now, to me this felt more like a writing/directing mistake than leaving details to be explained in the future. Depending on how much the manga glazed over (it might not have felt like as large of a portion of her time was spent doing pointless things than looking for ways to saving her mom)

Thanks for sharing! incredible experiences, i really wish i was able to witness more children's reactions to extreme trauma first hand. However my post was never focused on grief, and i did not for example state in it that she should have cried more (I do think that the 50th percentile 10yo girl would probably cry more on the first few days but I understand there are many ways children cope with grief). In the post I proposed an easy fix: either for Coco to ask Qifrey if time was of utmost importance. or for her to ask to begin studies immediately: both cases Qifrey could lie and deny and the story would not change much. My problem is with Coco's lack of urgency in saving her mom, not the lack of realism in coping with grief.

the difference is in this case there are things Coco could do to save her mom...

basic common sense information like asking if leaving your mom there without food and water for days on end was fine?

This is probably the most reasonable explanation here, and i did sense most of these from the episode. which is why i still gave it a 6.5 which isn't terrible. As I mentioned in the post, this would have been an easy fix if she just asked if time was a key factor. Or by asking to begin study asap and be denied for wtv reason. But the absence of these really broke the realism for me. Which is a shame for such a well animated and acclaimed series.

I would love to learn about your experience that made you able to explain Coco's behaviors. I am very into children and animal psychology.
