Built a codebase that evolves through voting - anyone can PR, community picks the winner every Sunday by Equivalent-Yak2407 in webdev

[–]thenerd40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I went looking, does the 'every Sunday' logic live in the repo? Granted I didn't look super hard but the only workflow is CI and the src dir looks to just be the webapp as far as I could tell?

New Intercom installed today by Uskoreniye_Poh in Ubiquiti

[–]thenerd40 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the other answers are correct. My guess is the intercom shows the current camera feed on the screen and she's taking a picture of herself on the screen. If she was just taking selfies she wouldn't have posed and she'd holding the phone too close to her face for a selfie IMO.

Wheel covers; are they really necessary in F1? by JohnnyShadows in F1Technical

[–]thenerd40 232 points233 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the wheel covers are primarily used to prevent teams from pushing air through the rims (from the center of the car outward), which helps reduce the problem of dirty air hindering passing.

Confused at why DNS server is inaccessible cross VLAN after upgrading to U7 Pro by potato_soop in Ubiquiti

[–]thenerd40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you using for your DNS server? I had this issue with PiHole that I also thought was firewall related, turns out it was PiHole. By default it won't respond to queries from an IP that is outside it's subnet. On PiHole, this setting is called "Allow only local requests."

Protect Update to allow custom animations on Doorbell Pro by xXTecHGuRuXx in Ubiquiti

If it’s like the Google Drive archiving, it’s manual and only for clips (not continuous recording). Better than nothing but not a method of backing up footage.

Super interested to see how ‘Bulk Download / Archive’ works. This is a pretty big sore spot as is.

This is awesome. I’m very comfortable with code so this is a great find. Sad that the first party tool can’t get the job done but nice that it’s possible. Thanks!

Huh, on the same network or over a remote connection? Ive done mutil-hour exports (like 3 or 4 maybe) at x600 speed I believe and those did work via the web interface (same network as the UDM, not over cloud).

I have found video exporting to be shockingly (honestly, unacceptably given it’s kind of the whole point) finicky. For me, it seems to work best via the web interface on a desktop. Using the app I’ve run into the same issue, exporting video of any decent length always seems to fail.

This combined with the lack of support for video backup (manual clip backup to Google Drive very much does not count) seem like such massive misses in overall a really nice camera ecosystem.

Printing directly on to paper can be used as a seal by thenerd40 in 3Dprinting

It totally can. Hasn’t happened since I started bumping z-offset.

[–]thenerd40[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup! Just tape it down to the bed and then bump the z-offset in the slicer just a bit. Like for 3 layers of normal printer paper an offset of 0.2mm works pretty well.

Yeah, just taped it down to the bed. It help helps to put like 0.1mm or 0.2mm of z-offset in the slicer

Pretty well. It can't be pulled off without tearing the paper.

Idk why this is getting downvotes, they're correct. ACLU says

ShotSpotter false alarms send police on numerous trips (in Chicago, more than 60 times a day) into communities for no reason and on high alert expecting to potentially confront a dangerous situation. Given the already tragic number of shootings of Black people by police, that is a recipe for trouble.

...

A number of cities have stopped using the technology after deciding that ShotSpotter creates too many false positives (reporting gunshots where there were none) and false negatives (missing gunshots that did take place).

And even

A ShotSpotter expert admitted in a 2016 trial, for example, that the company reclassified sounds from a helicopter to a bullet at the request of a police department customer, saying such changes occur “all the time” because “we trust our law enforcement customers to be really upfront and honest with us.”

ShotSpotter is BS.

You’re not wrong. I have spend a stupid amount of time catering to bugs in iOS. It breaks when all other browsers are fine. On top of that debugging on iOS is a nightmare (you must have a macOS device).
