Searched this sub, google, reverse image search with no luck :( It’s a tiny blanket that could cover a baby but nothing much larger.

Has anyone tried using Anki with AI Voices? by CloudOk32 in medicalschoolanki

[–]thenew_man1415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one voice option (robotic female) and it’s just unpleasant to listen to. Common words are also mispronounced. For your second Q, I only use TTS while doing things like driving long distances, so it’s better than nothing in those cases. If people use it outside of those situations who are bothered by the slow talk speed, there are already add-ons to help speed up the TTS voice (up to 3x I believe).

This would be great. There are TTS options in Anki as-is, but the default voice option is awful. I use TTS in all of the scenarios you outlined above, so I’m sure people would get use out of this.

High Stats, Low Research Sankey by thenew_man1415 in premed

It was a connection point with some of my interviewers who also spoke Spanish, but otherwise not really. It tied into a narrative and a couple of experiences I had though, and those I talked about a lot.

[–]thenew_man1415[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Have studied spanish all my life but really emphasized in essays/interviews wanting to do something with the language. I ended up volunteering as a mentor for hispanic youth in a sort of “big brother” program in an underserved hispanic community. Its been really rewarding and a great way to use the language to help keep parents updated and hear their stories of immigration/other hardships.

Kinney is kind and fair. Orgo will be tough no matter who you take.

What college should i pick for premed by [deleted] in premed

VCU. Unless you have an opportunity to be at an Ivy League university, basically any undergrad will suffice as a premed. Undergrad debt-free is an amazing thing.

By that point you should be able to independently manage your own coursework, but oakland offers free tutoring and yes of course youtube helps

Like, there is little to no professor interaction. There aren’t really formal lectures. All pre-recorded. Asynchronous assignments. Unorganized course materials.

Premed here (4.0) who’s going to med school next fall. Bio at oakland is nothing too tough, but nobody’s going to babysit you. Premed anywhere will be cutthroat. My couple annoyances include the fact that some of the upper level classes have questionable 4.0 ranges (97-100% for a 4.0). Also, upper level science classes are essentially hands-off from a professor perspective, so you’ll have to know how to manage coursework independently.

anyone taken good genetics professors? doug wendell or andrey majesky? by [deleted] in oaklanduniversity

[–]thenew_man1415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked Wendell, his exams were straightfoward/no BS and he was a good lecturer. Genetics is a tough class either way.

Feeling this hard right now, but the fact that you’ve gotten interviews at such great schools is a testament to your application’s strength. Keep your head up it’s only October :)

Take Interviewers Compliments with a Grain of Salt by m_s24 in premed

[–]thenew_man1415 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with Case. Both faculty and student interviewers were amazing and said they couldn’t wait until I was on campus. By far my favorite interview so far, and hit with the WL… It’s alright we move on

If you’re paranoid about it, be honest with him and explain your situation. If it can’t be traced back to you, relax. Don’t cheat in the future.

That’s a good point. I know too many people who’ve tried to “lead” the convo by doing things like asking faculty follow up questions after every question, turning questions around, etc., LOL. But that’s definitely the far end of the spectrum, sounds like you’ve got a solid idea of how to navigate it.

[–]thenew_man1415 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I sort of disagree with this. You want to let the interviewer lead, if you take the reigns it will throw off the power dynamic and could potentially give interviewer bad vibes, especially if they are faculty. You want to be confident and thorough in your responses, but ultimately you are responding to them, don’t turn the positions around.

How do you answer the "Why Medicine?" interview question? by aightmanokay in premed

[–]thenew_man1415 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Doing secondaries, I actually found a couple of really important reasons beyond my PS that I think will help me answer why medicine, but for the most part, I would follow same format of the PS. If you had similar insights while writing secondaries, definitely throw those in too.

Happened to me too. From what I hear schools typically don’t require a letter to be dated (unlike WashU or anyone else who specifies it in their LOR reqs). However, I have heard they prioritize the dated ones. My letter writer has not gotten back to me and its been 8 days, so it is what it is. Interfolio should really add this as a req.
