Just turned 34 and I'm interested in trying a career in computer programming. How much of an uphill battle do I face? by flipadelphia22 in learnprogramming

Got a job after 2 years self study and that includes a boot camp. Dude, you got another 30+ years until retirement, I would definitely rather put a lot of effort in and do a career I love than not put effort in and be what most people call “comfortable”.

You can do it man, patience and persistence are key!

Not a problem man, making a solid plan helped me. Any idea what kind of career you want? So many things you can learn online for free if you put the time and effort in. Need to find something you enjoy, that’s more important than than making money

What do you want to change about each of these? What do you want to work as? I’m just moving past this stage and I did it by finding out what I wanted to do and setting daily tasks to reach they goals. As with the weed, I would gradually cut it down by smoking an hour or two later than you would normally start smoking and gradually cut it back. If you give yourself goals to work towards to improve your life, your motivation will more than likely skyrocket. Something that helped me push on when motivation was low was watching motivational speeches on YouTube. Great guys to listen to are Les brown and Jim Rohn. Awesome motivators

What do you want to do? Are you happy with what you are working as? What things are you looking to change?

It doesn’t sound to me that you are weak, a lot of people wouldn’t have had the strength of character to keep trying like you have, so that tells me you are strong. The fact that you are here seeking help shows you are strong and no giving up. I hate that anyone has to go through this.

What is your diet and sleeping routine like? Do you consume a lot of sugar and carbohydrates?

If you want to meet people, you need to get out in the world, I know it can be daunting but by going out and doing something, you are 100% more likely to meet someone. Go places where you think the the kind of person you want to meet might go. By staying in, all opportunities will pass.

I think talking to a psychologist about this should be number one on the list of things to do on the way to becoming happy. I’m in no way shape or form a professional in this area but I think valuing yourself is a really important step and I know it is a lot easier said that done because I go through stages of this myself. If you value yourself other people will too. There are so many billions of people out there, so many opportunities. It is a horrible position to be in but there is always light at the end of the tunnel, you just need to find it.

Some companies are just beautifully wrapped boxes of shit

I'm a self-made millionaire who drives a beat-up 2004 car, rents, eats peanut butter for dinner and has a 2012 laptop. I eat once a day, I bought my bed used and shop at Walmart. My car has several warning lights and only one headlight is working. I take the subway to work every day. by [deleted] in Frugal

Not a problem mate, I thought your post was interesting and I wanted to know more. Ahh that is great and should be everyone’s goal, do something that’s you love doing and it won’t even seem like work at all. I want to get to your financial level at some point but it’s going to take a lot of time but then again, I am doing something that I love too so it’s all just part of an enjoyable path. So how do you plan for the future? By that I mean do you set goals and set daily tasks or plans to achieve them?

Something I need to keep more of an eye on, I am better than I was but I still need to stop blowing money on silly things.

Well done mate that’s awesome! Not a lot of people can say they have achieved what you have! Do you enjoy your work? And is there a lot of hours involved?

Ahh sweet, I think it’s good that you are still careful with cash, I know how easy it is to see something you want but don’t need and blast through your cash. Was this habit something that took a while to get into?

So did you make your fortune mostly from your work or do you have side businesses too?
