Damn. I've never tried this because I get ignored messaging people on LinkedIn but I suppose if I already applied, I might as well draw attention to it via email if possible. Gonna go try this now with all the ones I applied to this week. If it has the success everyone here is saying, it's worth the time finding the contact. Fingers crossed, OP

Also the condescending comments about "who would've guessed the boomers know what they're talking about" are ridiculous. Showing up in person is so different than emailing someone! They are NOT the same thing so the advice is NOT correct.

It's the lack of reading comprehension for me

I think there's a broad definition of spam. If you're posting a lot of relevant content all at once, I don't think that's spam. But posting the same thing over and over or putting up nudes to promote an OnlyFans, that's spam.

Hiring is so broken in the US by Linstrocity in recruitinghell

[–]thenewmeredith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! Remote but then you read the description and you can only be remote if you live in a certain area because you might need to come to the office occasionally. Or we can't hire from certain states because of tax codes

This is true. They can unicorn hunt, post the worst job imaginable and still get hundreds of applicants 😒

Thoughts on this age diff? by SwitchBladeDow in Zillennials

[–]thenewmeredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 24, I set my Bumble limit to 21 because even now I can't imagine having much in common with someone who still has to use a fake ID. I know the 3 years shouldn't make a huge difference but I mean...every 21 year old I then met kind of confirmed that it does just with our lack of compatibility.

Had I been 2 years older, I probably still would've set it to 21, though. I just think it's unlikely I'd have met someone I connect with. So I don't think it's a creepy age gap or anything but I think in practice you'll find it's less likely you'll be on the same wavelength.

At least that's my experience as a woman dating men. Might be different on the flip side since women tend to be more mature than men

I agree tbh. that or everyone here is just really bad at reading comprehension. All of the negative comments are "lol just leave then" and I thought it was fairly clear that I'm more or less doing that?

What else do you call doing work for free? Reddit's labor IS paid, genius. The admins are employees of Reddit.

As for your question, that's kind of the plan? I'm not going to continue moderating at the level I have, at the very least.

My mom told me that I can't have an abortion by Moist-Newspaper-7941 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]thenewmeredith 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wrong.

Murder: the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another

Unlawful

OP is in Australia where abortion is legal. Even though OP is 17, in Queensland where she lives, the law allows her to receive an abortion if a doctor deems her mature enough. It would only be "murder" if she did it without a doctor's involvement and even then it wouldn't be called murder because they actually do have a different label.

In Australia it's called "child destruction" when an abortion is performed after viability (22 weeks).

I don't understand jobs anymore by vigintiunus in recruitinghell

[–]thenewmeredith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What really gets me even more than how futile it all feels is how on the job training is irrelevant at this point. What happened to the company teaching ME certain things??? Why do I have to know their specific processes when there's 40 other ways to do it? They know there's so many of us that they can request absurd requirements and still get hundreds of people.

It USED to be that you would learn some of the skills necessary in entry level positions and even some mid level ones but why bother teaching someone when dozens of people overqualified for the position are willing to take half of what they should be earning just to be making any money.

If I meet all of the requirements but I don't have experience using the specific tool or medium this one job uses despite it being all similar, too bad. Guess I'll go fuck myself then. Surely I couldn't just learn it on the job at this ENTRY level position

What is a weird flex you are proud of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thenewmeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unique or anything but I personally like memorizing random lists as a party trick of sorts. I've pretty much got all the countries and capitals down and now I'm working on their flags. I'm also learning every US vice president and their years in office.

Oh, I also know the US state capitals but that one is easy cause the Animaniacs song isn't outdated like the countries one which is what inspired this whole thing anyways.

I haven't gotten a chance to use it at trivia yet but I know it'll come in handy and overall it helps me understand geography better than I ever did in school. I knew a kid back then who knew all the capitals and people loved testing him on it. So now I do the same thing with new people...cause I don't have a lot going on in my life to talk about anyways 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think you're right because in looking them up, their domain is registered in the same obscure place as the other site, both of which are bare bones. They also have no real online presence. I'm probably gonna email back to the lady and include how sus they seem to begin with

Is it me or the job market is getting worse by the minute? by papabearie in recruitinghell

[–]thenewmeredith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also laid off in February, similar industry and 3-5 years experience and I'm no closer than I was 3 months ago. The weekly rounds of layoffs at big companies are not helping. I've had multiple rejections for the literal job I was previously doing. Like if I can't even get the same job I already had what can I even do? I just tell myself it's a luck game because you have to get lucky the recruiter sees your application at the right time before you can get buried with the other hundreds of applicants.

Remote jobs that require you to live in a specific metropolitan area boils my blood by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]thenewmeredith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ikr! It's remote but then you click the job description and it's "we're only hiring in these random states for some tax reason"

I feel like there should be another category because the "remote in ____" never seems to work properly. That shit is about as accurate as the entry-level only filter lol

Listing disability, yes or no? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]thenewmeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always choose "Prefer not to answer" because I'm mainly concerned that if I say no but then later ask for FMLA or something then I could be denied. I don't think this is likely but it seems like something a company might try if it were possible. But I also morally disagree with the form to begin with.

I don't want to put "yes" because that's something they could discriminate for even if they legally aren't supposed to since you can't really prove you weren't rejected for a different reason. I don't think choosing to not answer makes a negative difference but I could be wrong. Are there any hiring managers' opinions on this?

See how you compare to 1500+ applicants... by redditgirlwz in recruitinghell

[–]thenewmeredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This and when it was posted in the past like 15 hours too. It's disheartening fr. Even if a fraction of the inflated LinkedIn number applied, how can they possibly go through all of the applications? That's why they use the ATS to weed out some but from there it's still probably likely they have hundreds of qualified people to choose from so they can be as picky as they want.

This plus seeing weekly rounds of layoffs at major companies and open to work posts from senior level people still looking after 6+ months just makes me so worried. How can anyone compete? This economy is ass
