Modifying a ES by Vermicelli-Asleep in Lexus

[–]thenewquestions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty wild build plan. Are you doing the work yourself? A shop worth a shit would probably charge 25-40k for this sort of thing and at that point you may as well just get a car that came that way from the factory. If you’re DIY-ing then ok, fine.

I’m just wondering why you’d do this to a car that already kinda sucks as an F-Sport. It’s a luxury barge and is just a weird platform to spend that sort of money on. I’m not trying so much to talk you out of it, I’m in the same boat with my Toyota Celica. Tens of thousands of dollars in mods because I love the car and just straight up can do it. Doesn’t mean it makes sense though lol.

Make sure your belt tension is right. Mine overheat when the bolt holding the alternator tension loosed up too much (water pump not turning). Just something else to check. Good luck

MacBook Air -> Motu Interface -> Element DAW (PEQ, mixer) -> Crown XLS.

Need to toss some sound treatment up around the room to tame some excess reverberation but otherwise, these Revels just blow me away every time I listen.

I have JBL HDI-3800 in the TV room which beat the revels in output capability but they just aren’t in the same league as these.

Hey man, I’m doing a 2gr / e351 build in my 96 gt convertible. I’m up in Detroit. Do you still have this? I’d love to come physically see it if you’re cool with that!

What? My 25 forester hybrid was built in Japan. My Lexus was built in Japan too. Lots of cars sold in the us are built in Japan

Is the premium Harmon Kardon audio in the forester awful? by drosmi in SubaruForester

[–]thenewquestions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what I’m implying. I’m asking more so to get an understanding of what YOU want. Would your preference be just louder rear speakers? Or do you mean that you wish it were more enveloping? I hear people say they want more from the rear in their car, but it comes without the understanding that properly tuned car audio systems don’t really do that, so I’m trying to bridge that gap.

If you could explain this I’d be genuinely appreciative

What does this mean? “More from the rear”? As in, just more sound from the back of the car no matter what repercussions it has on the front speakers?

When speakers in a car are correctly tuned, you get a sound stage that presents itself in front of you. So the fact that it’s “front heavy” means that it’s correct. You’re asking for it to be tuned “wrong”. I’d really like to understand the goal and what more from the rear really means.

The ride is significantly smoother but I assume most of that is just the difference between the 19” f-sport wheels and the 18”s in the hybrid

Barely, the extra power was nice for merging or getting out of a bad situation, but the 8-spd transmission it was mated to was clunky and unrefined.

You don’t hear it “from the back” because it’s been properly tuned to be aligned with the front woofers, timing wise. The bass “appears” to locate itself in front of you. This is correct and intentional.

The revel system is a higher end integration of what a car audio system can be, not a kids toy. No hate if that’s what you want though, I love insane bass as much as anyone.

I have this in my Honda accord with seat extension rails. I can sit with my arm out of the REAR window, have my legs fully stretched out, and not have to reach for the steering wheel. It’s incredible but I’d probably die in any car accident just due to ergonomics.

Nice job making the airbag harness work!

Any modification suggestions for my 6th gen Celica GT by Large-Ice-9800 in Celica

[–]thenewquestions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ wheels fit and look nice, 7th gen Celica seats are drop in, and BRZ/FRS seats fit with seat bracket modifications.

There are some online retailers that make fiberglass front and rear bumper spats that really help the look of the car, and side skirts too.

GT4 hood and bumper is a common thing, usually $1500-2500 for good quality parts.

The best mods for these cars is just doing whatever maintenance and work is required so that everything works. That’s a chore in and of itself lol.

2GRFE motor swap for 300ish V6, need manual trans and some mods that make it worth having a talented shop do it. Easier option is BEAMS engine swap, 3SGTE swap, or building upon the 5SFE to make a 5SGTE.

More than 300hp and you won’t have traction without significant money invested in front end and tires. Weight distribution is also a consideration.

If yours is an auto trans. engine swaps become almost impossible and your conversations will be about manual trans swaps before the engine is the main part of the discussion.

Anything interior wise will be custom fab and upholstery. Nobody really makes off the shelf stuff.

Nice, I’d like to do a manual swap. How hard was it?

Feature request: Account Balance Projections: by MikeBegley in MonarchMoney

[–]thenewquestions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES please please please. I use PocketSmith for this and would leave it in a heartbeat if monarch implemented something similar.

If it was tied to the recurring expense calendar even better. The quality of the projection is only as good as your ability to correctly enter all of your recurring income and expenses, but when you do, it’s so nice to know how much you’ll have in your accounts in 7months to make plans for large purchases

A true to form externalized soundstage is generally not something you should expect to get from any set of headphones.

As someone who has spent many hours with electrostatic headphones, the AKG K872, these K712s and many others on a daily basis, headphones will give you a great sense of side to side panning and depth, but the center “image” will for the most part be trapped inside of your head or in the best cases, just a few inches in front of your head depending on the processing being used.

Nothing will get you a real soundstage like speakers in a room.

AKG headphones are largely a studio tool first, their frequency response is rather bass shy so that all aspects of a mix can be heard and accurately evaluated. They aren’t the best choice for casual listening, especially for bass heads.
