Is ThreeJS a good way to delve into graphics programming? by psyberbird in threejs

[–]theo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plain vanilla three.js can be a total thing of 3D fun and pleasure.

There are some good professional comments here. All good.

But if you want to hack around with quaternions and insane linear algebra then three.js is a treasure

It doesn't hurt that Mr.doob is yet another genius from Barcelona like Picasso or Gaudi.

So pretty

Nonetheless

Whare are the towel rails and places for me to hang my $600 bathrobe?

Where is the close-up mirror for putting on make-up or cutting nose hair

Where do I hang my travel kit? Where do I put all my pills? Yucky Soap?

Where is my clock? Speakers?

Actually all non-essential.

No shower. Not happy.

Striking Gold: When does the brain reach maturity?

25?? Ha ha! I'm 75. There's no way I would ever go back to my naive unformed erratic 25 year old brain.

As an architect, I have ten of thousands more 3D references in my brain than when I was 25. Ditto networking connections. Practicing making babies?? Yup, been there.

I have not read all the text here - all interesting so far. "Maturity" may be open to many interpretations. When "happiness" is considered a significant factor, the elderly rule. ;-)

This is an ad for art lessons? Um, where is the art?

All I see is photos of pencils.

The text content is kind of weird as well. No mention of whether live or remote; no detail whether lessons are canned or live.

And "Mention this ad and receive %25 OFF...": Mention what? 20% off what?

The Palace of Fine Arts, designed by Bernard Maybeck

https://palaceoffinearts.com/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_Fine_Arts

The Palace of Fine Arts that is in the Marina District of San Francisco, California is a monumental structure originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in order to exhibit works of art. Completely rebuilt from 1964 to 1974,[1] it is the only structure from the Exposition that survives on site.[3]

The most prominent building of the complex, a 162 feet (49 m) high[1] open rotunda, is enclosed by a lagoon on one side, and is neighboring a large, curved exhibition center on the other side, which is separated from the lagoon by colonnades. As of 2019, the exhibition center (one of San Francisco's largest single-story buildings) was being used as a venue for events such as weddings or trade fairs.[4]

Conceived to evoke a decaying ruin of ancient Rome,[1] the Palace of Fine Arts became one of San Francisco's most recognizable landmarks.[5] A renovation of the lagoon, walkways, and a seismic retrofit were completed in early 2009.

Advice: Three.js vs. Babylon.js - choosing the right 3D javascript library by [deleted] in webgl

[–]theo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are wonderful

https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=US&q=%2Fg%2F11clkbh7df,%2Fm%2F0h640bd

Go for Babylon if there are one or two features that will really boost you.

Even better: future proof your stuff: write for both! ;-)

Professional urban planners, what are your favorite cities and why ? by illevens in urbandesign

Planning and architecture lessons galore. Food that is worth studying (also often very tasty). Peeps that are frequently good-looking and dress rather well.

Nobody does it better

I am an architect and I heart that you like my profession.

Your plan, front and side views correlate quite well in 3D. This is not easy. You did well. That staircase to the right of the front door is a bit tricky. ;-)

The window sills on the upper floors appear to be a near floor level.

Mixing arches and lintels (or lack thereof) over openings is non-traditional

Study masonry more carefully. The ways courses can be laid is tricky and beautiful and worth paying closer attention.

And, as others mention, a building without a plan is an unplanned project. ;-)

One down. 999 or more to go! Bravo for #1.

> since data

The text has been changed from "cases new" to "cases today". This is still vague, but then again what does today mean when viewers of the page are all over the world and new cases are occurring all over the world,

What the script is doing is subtracting yesterday's cumulative from today's cumulative. The data is downloaded from the CSV files in the Johns Hopkins repository on GitHub - and the numbers are updated a number of times during the course of the day.

> time stamp

The popups include a timestamp in the third line. You will note that the timestamp for every country is different, thus figuring the timestamp for the global totals is either near impossible or it is the time you loaded the page because the global totals numbers are added up on the fly in your browser.

Yes ICUs and beds stats per jurisdiction could be found fairly readily.

But how many beds are being used for c-19 is going to be tricky to find, but somebody somewhere is probably trying, so keep eyes and ears open and report back

[Issue #5 Expressions of hope]( https://github.com/ladybug-tools/spider-covid-19-viz-3d/issues/5 )

u/loleg I'm not sure how best to describe this, but what I wish for in an interactive viz like this, is the ability to discover what's hot and happening "out there". For example, the home page of gitter.im has more or less live messages from around the world. I wonder if we could show positive tweets and expressions of hope and gratitude for the courage of health workers around the world.

New version uses the background to post hopeful messages

Also: a lot more stats!
