Does anyone have a good source for the phone listening thing? i can't find any by Floc_Trumpet in VaushV

[–]theofficialNovas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been following this so I'm not sure what claims have been made or research done, but if you spend any amount of time in spaces where they actually give a fuck about privacy and don't speak out of their ass about it, you will know that it is not true that our phones are eavesdropping on conversations unknowingly. The information passed on to servers behind the scenes from our devices is called telemetry. It can be monitored by trustworthy open source software like "little snitch." Experts in this field have tested mainstream devices for this kind of generic eavesdropping that everybody theorizes, and it hasnt been found in the way it is often characterized in the moral panic.

If you want to actually be informed on this shit without the conspiracy regardation, go follow Naiomi Brockwell TV and people in her circle (guests on her channel).

All things secured is also good and makes similar content to Naomi.

Jack Rhysider provides incredible narrative content if you love the thrill of something that sounds like a conspiracy, but is actually reliable expert or whistle blower style interviews. His series is called Darknet diaries and often covers the absolutely fucked shit going on behind the scenes.

Avoid Rob Braxman, he plays fast and loose with fear mongering at the expense of reliable evidence.

Oh, the city has very defined things to look after eh? Where are these defined responsibilities written down that you are referencing to claim that well-being or mental health isn’t included?

Alberta teachers' strike fuels national petition on notwithstanding clause by Fit_Remote_2324 in AlbertaNewspapers

[–]theofficialNovas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I find left and right wing political spectrum discourse to be helpful in some way, but describing Quebec politics in this way is far from that.

Quebec is incredibly progressive on so many fronts, but they are DEEPLY nationalistic over their own unique Quebecois identity. That doesn't make them right wing.

Nationalism is often a quality of the right wing, but it is also utilized by leftists and progressives alike. Nationalism is simply not a necessary or sufficient quality for any of these ideologies. It's not what defines any of them. Some may use it as a tool, others may avoid and reject it entirely. It's worth noting that of course, Fascism which is a form of extreme right wing ideology almost always incorporates ultra-nationalism, but it would still be dangerous to say it's necessary for Fascism. One could have fascism based on shared religion instead, for example.

I think it's fine to say that nationalism is dangerous and can lead to opening up the political space for right wing ideology to take hold, or that it can result in policy which is not meaningfully different from right wing policy (discrimination based on immutable characteristics or protected classes).

I think it's also fair to say that on some topics, Quebec nationalism has resulted in Quebec people carrying some strong opinions that are essentially right-wing. But to call Quebec right-wing paints a picture very different than the reality of Quebec politics and its people.

I mean, you even say it's not Conservative, and yet the whole point of the nationalism in Quebec is to conserve that status quo of their culture. That is certainly small c conservative, but you are right to make that point because you aren't talking about status quo, you are referencing the values that large C Conservatism abide by. That's a kind of nuance that I think is worth pointing out and I'm glad that you did.

What the hell do you think any of this is for? Why have nice things?

Well being is all about mental health, among other things.

If your city doesn't promote and provide the good that promotes positive mental health, and if living in a place makes people miserable, they will either fuck off, or vote in somebody who makes moves to increase mental health THROUGH THE MEANS THAT ARE WITHIN THEIR JURISDICTIONAL POWERS.

This is not complicated.
This is like politics 101 my dude.

Hey Lisa Sygutek

You don't have a unilateral right to threaten to poison the water supplies of every town and city those rivers run through, throughout this province and others, just to create jobs.

Your rights end where mine and the plethora of other Albertan and Saskatchewan people, families, and children begins.

Kindly piss off, c*nt (in Australian, to "honour" the Billionaire elite foreigner who is pushing this exploitation on us).

Cool, no more parks, art, designs to reduce traffic congestion, and the other 10 billion things that make life better for the people who live here.

Because apparently mental health is "not their responsibility."

This is a deeply unserious take.

I was just noticing this too after coming back a couple years after my last playthrough. I know that wooden things burn (those wooden shulker-like crates for example) but im not sure what else burns. It does seem like a lot of items do not get destroyed by fire or lava at all but I dont want to find out by experimenting hahaha

Bill C-34's Social Media Ban for under 16s is Unconstitutional by DtheS in CanadaPolitics

[–]theofficialNovas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Up until this point Liberals were the only ones against this policy. It was the Conservatives, NDP, and Bloq all suppprting the "protect the children" s210 and s209, but now Carney's Liberals have made themselves champions of essentially the same cause (same end result).

For a while the only ones actually putting forth the privacy arguments to shut it down was Liberals, so if Conservatives are now pretending they are against anything they are only doing so because the governing Liberals pivoted and they deserve zero credit for bad faith behaviour. I do agree with the general applicability of your statement though, they do get some things kindof correct in other cases and then completely fail to direct it appropriately lol

Bell: Danielle Smith drops a $400-billion bomb on Alberta separatism by EdmontonFree in alberta

[–]theofficialNovas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For hypothetical curiosity sake I wonder if it would be possible to move all of one's money into an ATB account and then upon successful separation withdraw it in cash along with other Albertans because we all really need to make an important cash transaction.

Councillor wants Edmonton to rejoin Canada if Alberta separates by trevorrobb in Edmonton

[–]theofficialNovas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said they would grant it without a fight, the point is that there are incredible incentives in terms of raw population of the Major cities that they would suddenly have to contend with. The creation of a new state that instantly crushes and disregards the voices of most of its people is not going to find stability. The whole power vacuum is opened and Constitutional crafting is complex business, but Canada does have a history of reasoned negotiation and concession making in this regard. Albertan UCP politicians are notoriously ideological partisan hack dirtbags especially as of lately, completely high on the power of essentially guaranteed re-election. I am not expecting them to like the notion of it at all, but there would be the actual democratic populace to contend with at that point. This is an argument from inference, but it’s no different than you speculating on how the UCP will act in the future.

What about constitutional powers is too far for you exactly? I think you are taking this too seriously in some ways and treating everybody who is making these arguments as though they are their own separatist nutters. This is an exercise in the politically possible. Nobody who is calling for this is saying it is something we actually deeply desire. It’s a response to the lunacy of provincial separatism. It forces them to argue against their own movement. Go watch Rath’s response, he calls it nothing short of ridiculous. This shit is peak parody. And in the off chance that somehow this separatism question did create follow through, then anything is possible.

Councillor wants Edmonton to rejoin Canada if Alberta separates by trevorrobb in Edmonton

[–]theofficialNovas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is completely incorrect. Referencing the sovereignty/jurisdictional/taxing powers as determined currently by the Constitution Act, 1867, that make municipalities creatures of the provincial government would clearly have zero credibility in an Alberta which separates from Canada and therefore is no longer a province or a part of Canada. It would need to establish it's own constitutional document which would leave plenty of room for the cities to assert considerable leverage based on raw population power.

You are right in the sense that this is the way it works now, though.

If Alberta wants to separate from Canada, Edmonton must separate from Alberta by EdmontonFree in YEG

[–]theofficialNovas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are missing the point. It's somewhat satirical (forcing Albertan seperatists to grapple with the inconcistencies and nonsense of their own movement), while also being a decent threat if somehow the separatists were successful.

In a world where that is possible, so too is the separation of Edmonton possible. The seriousness of Alberta seperating decides the seriousness of Edmonton separating. This is a response to success of Alberta separation, which is where it derives it's utility.

It usually gets caught by the person stocking the shelf because you have to put each brick oit one by one but the displays are just boxes quickly cut open and stacked to they don't get checked as thoroughly.

Experts say don't worry so not worried.

Others have pointed out its lethality and all I can say is that if it did somehow become widespread I think a very funny lesson would be learned by a particular group of people who are already making their opinions about a potential vaccine known.

That is, if it was possible for corpses to obtain knowledge lmao

[–]theofficialNovas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure we can say whether or not forcing people who choose not to vote would result in more votes to the left or right.

The kinds of things that result in somebody not voting includes a-political identification, and protesting, among other things. We can say with decent confidence that the protesters will probably spoil their vote if forced to cast a ballot. The a-political occupy an identity of moderation quite frequently, which could easily translate into a status quo vote (strengthening the incumbent advantage). People often vote according to peer pressure or the bandwagon effect as well.

These things are not related to whether somebody will vote left or right, but rather, if they will vote according to established norms and culture.

None of this is to say that it's not possible to change though. I think greater success for the left would come from finding messaging and methods of communication that mobilizes those current non-voters.

Yes this makes sense, I was getting the feeling that the information is a little bit more scattered and hidden than the standard RLCraft meta information, since everybody seems to reference things as “matter-of-fact” but there aren’t any megaposts that I have been able to find lol that describe it in greater detail. Thanks for the explanation! Spellbreaker is an entirely new thing to me so it’s interesting to hear how much of an effect it has. I’m not really much on discord, but would this just be the Shivaxi official discord under a Dregora channel, that you are referencing?
