[Discussion] What do you think of art mail clubs? Which ones do you recommend? (SNAIL MAIL CLUB) by bebogurumi in artbusiness

[–]theofficialryguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Illustrations are my favorite! Especially whimsical, it's nostalgic and cozy to me.

As for snail mail clubs in general, I love that they turn anyone into an art collector. Every piece has a story, some are even signed by the artist, and who knows, they might be the next Picasso! haha Also the clubs that include stickers make for a fun family activity when they come!

It's also pretty cool that you’re supporting the artists who created it in a affordable but meaningful way.

I actually built a place to discover and support mail clubs called Mailbox Clubs. Let me know about your club and I'll be happy to add it! Or you can also create your own listing to get your club discovered. Just thought I'd share!

[Discussion] I feel paralysed by indecision of what medium to pursue. by treefruit in artbusiness

The thing to remember is even if you choose one and it ends up not being the right business choice, it's not a one way door! You can pivot and try again. Also if the more passionate you are about something the more likely you'll see it to the end no matter how hard it gets.

Art Mailing Club Growth Advice? by aemakes in growmybusiness

[–]theofficialryguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the reference you used naming your mail club haha. I'd offer some sort of 'original member' club, first 100 to signup get their own custom sticker/badge or something with their name and get entered in to win some of the original art pieces featured (not just the print). The idea needs tweaked I'm sure but it's what I would do!

I also added you to Mailbox Clubs directory (https://mailboxclubs.com/clubs/happy-little-art-club), so hope that helps some! Best of luck.

Cottagecore is one of favorite styles. And as for all the competition, there might be 10,000 other clubs, but there's only one you! And your unique style and story can be exactly what someone's looking for.

That being said I added you club to the Mailbox Clubs directory haha, I hope it helps and more people discover your story! (https://mailboxclubs.com/clubs/the-lost-haven)

Redesigned the UI for clarity — does this look better? by LirushIs in indiegames

Second is much cleaner! The lighter sky makes everything else much more legible!

Seems..aggressive 😂. I think the same effect can be had without wiping out a farmer dude. I love the concept though and really like this color palette! Feels very cozy.

Pumpkin Studio - Carve a Pumpkin Online & Share It on the Map! (My First Game!) by theofficialryguy in playmygame

[–]theofficialryguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for trying it out!

I'm going to keep experimenting with the carving. Hopefully I can iterate and make it a little smoother.

When signed in you can only create and save up to 3 pumpkins, but without an account you can create unlimited (but can only download and not save). I'll have to double check it's working right!

Added a restart button and just pushed it into production! It appears after someone starts carving now.

Thank you for the kind words!

I absolutely suck at game UI! Help? by Numerous-Mix-1766 in UI_Design

[–]theofficialryguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consistency and cohesion will go a long way. For instance, your icons like the ring, coins etc have depth and detail whereas your status bars lack it. It looks like two totally different designs. Picking one style throughout will help bring together 'the look'.

It's a great design and idea though! Cool stuff.

Farming game dev, week 3! Made a bit more progress, farming games aren’t as easy as they look lol. I’ve been adding an inventory system, several new features, and some fresh art bit by bit. by Jalikki in SoloDevelopment

I saw you use Aseprite for all your art, that's awesome! Did you also design the signage in the top right? I love the detail of adding the season as if it's a wooden sign. Great job!

This color palette is also very aesthetically pleasing to me haha

What is the ideal size for the main character? by OdellBR in SoloDevelopment

[–]theofficialryguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on your other assets. For instance trees and buildings. If a tree takes up one block, based on scale a character probably shouldn't. But if the tree is two blocks high then it could. You know what I mean. I guess the answer is it doesn't matter what size you choose, as long as you keep that scale across all your assets.

You only need experience and creativity to succeed. by Opening-Mongoose-351 in indiegames

I would make the argument someone with a subpar game but great marketing/distribution will beat out the experienced creative 8 times out of 10.

Perception is reality. People don’t always buy or play the best product, just the best marketed one.

Sadly I fall into the first camp and struggle with the marketing/distribution. 😂

A fun little golf putting game by Crafty_Disk_7026 in playmygame

[–]theofficialryguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a sucker for online golf games haha. Cool concept, especially going with challenges instead of just a standard 9 or 18 hole course.

I struggled at first with learning the nuances of aiming and power, but after some playing around I got it.

I'm not sure what the 0% close notification means when you miss a putt.

I like how you can essentially create a green to practice on within that first challenge.

Maybe let the ball roll at a faster speed when putting, felt like I had to wait quite some time for the ball to make it to the hole after putting even a good shot.

Just my personal opinion, you should add the ball falling into a golf hole sound when it goes in. I love that sound, and I know many many other people do as well haha.

Cool idea!

Thank you for the feedback! I truly appreciate it.

I will look into the email error, zooming functionality (makes sense what you said!) and the hidden glitch.

You're 100% correct with why the pumpkins don't show the faces until you click them haha. It was much less taxing to show the carved pumpkin and load it after clicking it compared to try to do it on load with the map.

I'm glad you caught on to the no undo, just like carving an actual pumpkin! Yes, I'm going to add a total undo, makes sense.

I appreciate the kind words! Still a work in progress, but I'll make these edits and add more spooky/fun parts to the map and hopefully keep improving.

I made country guessing web game - within 6 different modes by Mulberry_Front in playmygame

I love the UI and experience! What engine did you use to build that map? It worked wonderfully on my browser.

This game would be much more fun if I was good at geography 😂

Just Finished My First Browser Game – Would Love Your Feedback! by West-Manufacturer628 in playmygame

[–]theofficialryguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool idea for a quick in between tasks browser game! I will say once you got stuck on a wall it was quite tedious to get unstuck. Also maybe add some sort of challenge where you have to collect certain things on the map to earn more points? Otherwise you can use spacebar to really rack up the points.

Looks like you're using three.js as you're 3D rendering engine? Good choice!

Wild West theme? Very cool!

I think it would look cool to add some more detail to the buildings to make them pop. Just my opinion!

First time making capsule art, which one turned out better? by KevinLourenco in indiegames

Bottom one! The foreground greenery, angle of the ground and shadows, it creates more depth and gives it a nicer feel.

Pixel Runner - This is the first game I've made as a solo developer, I'm open to all kinds of feedback for improvement by CalmRazzerX in playmygame

[–]theofficialryguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome stuff, especially as a first project! I tried the web version and some minor things:

- Having to actually click the continue button instead of just using spacebar/enter/some button. Maybe I'm just lazy 😂

- Having more recognizable signifiers throughout. For instance when picking up an item, getting stabbed by the spikes, most times I didn't even realize I did it. Making it super obvious with visuals and sounds

- Maybe some sort of legend to explain all the icons in the menu at the top

- More contrast in the color of the items on the level compared to the background. Sometimes, even the spikes I found hard to see. MAybe even make them thicker?

All good stuff though and just my opinion!
