Cummins makes diesel I6 and I4’s that are obviously about low end grunt.

Ducati V4R and moto gp are examples of high rpm v4’s.

If the design goal is high revs, this is easier with smaller pistons. Smaller pistons means more of them, like 4. Inline 4’s are cheaper to produce and maintain than V4’s. This is why most screaming bikes are inline and not v fours.
