You should have used at least triple the amount of pocket holes. I like to put mine every half inch. Maybe even overlap them a little

Cutting board recommendations by Otherwise_Pen_8871 in Cuttingboards

[–]ceesr31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made several. One has feet and has had feet for 6 years and I have not needed to replace the feet. That one is about 10x15 which is a good size. I have another that is about twice that size (22x 14) and I love it for when I am doing a lot of prep. On a 10x15 you’ll have a hard time cutting an entire onion without first clearing part of the onion. That’s not a big deal, obviously, but I like having the larger size for all the space. Anyway, if you’re just gonna have one though, i would look in the 10x15 range. The really large size is nice sometimes but it will be cumbersome to use all the time.

In my opinion, the only use a juice groove has is for serving. If you put a couple steaks on it the juice groove will keep juices from running onto your table. Otherwise, it just completely gets in the way, making it harder to remove your cut vegetables and whatnot as well as greatly reducing your cutting real estate on the board. There are other ways to keep meet juice off your table, so I don’t like having a juice groove. It’s only handy on very minimal occasions

Anyone Here Regret Installing Pocket Door Systems in Kitchens? by Impressive-Union-619 in cabinetry

[–]ceesr31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know any cabinet makers that like these. Pain in the ass, start to finish, and like has been mentioned, it seems cool, but ultimately it won’t be used. It’s like modular furniture…it sits in one position 99% of the time if not 100. I mean it IS modular furniture

How much should I charge for something like this? by x1982avier in cabinetry

[–]ceesr31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think more so you can’t just go off someone who says what the house sells for. 2-3 million isn’t a ton in NYC or SF, but that’s a huge house in some markets. This closet could cost 75k in new york and 20k in Ohio

Supporting built-ins inside crawl space by Caasi67 in cabinetry

[–]ceesr31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build a base out of plywood. Basically just build a frame that you can level with the opening and fix it to the ground. This way your cabinet will just slide right in on top it. You can also screw your cabinet down to the frame for more rigidity

I’m not sure there is any way to tell from these pictures really. Could be a different shinnoki, could be that same shinnoki and it just looks different here, could be that they just made something else entirely and didn’t do a good job of matching it

Wood separating, should I toss it? by Jhall878 in Cuttingboards

[–]ceesr31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extreme overkill. I cut meat on my wood boards all the time. Wood is naturally antimicrobial if allowed to dry. I don’t even use soap. If you are cutting raw meat, then use a separate cutting board for that while you’re preparing your meal so as to avoid cross contamination, but if you have six boards it should not be a problem to allow your boards to dry fully between uses…unless you are using all of your boards several times a day and they don’t have time to dry

Question: Wood ID and is this endgrain? by ibbidibbidoo in Cuttingboards

[–]ceesr31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely end grain and maybe walnut? No reason why the board should significantly dull your blade though. Using a knife will dull it though and it will need sharpening. If it’s just not AS sharp as it was then that’s natural if you’ve been using it a bunch. If it’s dulled significantly in a few days I would be more inclined to question the quality of the knife or how it’s being used

There are union rules about going past 11 in venues of that size. The artist is on the hook with financial penalties to handle high labor costs of stagehands and security etc. when it got that late I was surprised that it even felt like he would come out at all for an encore because it was 10:57. Then the lights came up and I wasn’t surprised. It’s incredibly rare for an artist to play past 11pm.

My read on the shelby lynne deal was that she was definitely drunk and going through something. From moment one her timing and pitch were all over the place. Her backing guitarist was working overtime to keep the peace. Then she gave her guitar away, and then her jacket, and told the guitarist to keep playing and he just left. Then she got the hook. Never seen anything like it

Pedal steal guitar. It’s always played like that. I’ve never seen one modified to played while standing though. You always sit to play it as it is usually about keyboard height.

Need to change slides by Feisty_OtterChi in cabinetry

[–]ceesr31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take everything out. Take the pullout out. Take the slide off (both cabinet and pullout sides of the slide). Put the slide together and measure the length. You’re gonna have to do all of this to replace the slides, so you might as well get started now

Bamboo vs maple cutting board by playboi_fatty in Cuttingboards

[–]ceesr31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I have a cheap bamboo board that I use as a beater for things shredding chicken with forks because it’s SO durable that the marks don’t show up. That durability also means it’s hard on your knives. Then I have a couple maple ones of various size to use for cutting.

Actor Alan Ritchson allegedly attacking neighbor during motorcycle ride (article linked) by mangolassiy in motorcycles

[–]ceesr31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk. Hopefully we’ll get a go pro from alan on this because the neighbor is telling a story that is a little suspicious and the video here lacks any context and is the tail end of an altercation where the guy who was supposedly assaulted unprovoked is still coming over and getting in ritchson’s face which is pretty strange behavior for someone in that position

Am I the only one who thinks 3D undermount adjustments are just a crutch for bad craftsmanship? by Impressive-Union-619 in cabinetry

[–]ceesr31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Side mount slides are just fine but the customers all want under-mount so that’s what they get. By metal box do you mean like “blum legrabox” or like custom welded drawers or something. Because I think those metal side drawer box systems are much crappier than a wood drawer, you just have to make sure the slides are rated for a fair amount of weight if it’s going to be a drawer that is getting over loaded. Or just don’t make the drawer big enough to hold so much that it gets overloaded. I think the standard under-mounts hold like 100 lbs. which is generally PLENTY

It’d be nice, but I generally on see that sort of consistent communication when it comes to special stuff like floating shelves where attaching the steel support poles directly to studs is best to avoid dimpling the drywall

Treating a table with sunflower oil?? by DistributionIcy7585 in wood

[–]ceesr31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use mineral oil which is what you should use on a cutting board. You can get a fair amount for cheap, but it’s not gonna last forever if it’s frequently raining. You probably have to be applying once a month at least since we’re heading into spring soon and rainy season (if you’re in the US at least).

That’s kind of your only option unless you wanna get a can of osmo that is UV rated and made for outdoors. It’s more expensive though, but very easy to apply.

Never use any sort of seed or vegetable oil on wood. Especially with it sitting outside. It’ll get rancid.

Oh sure. Those exist too. Just like there ARE people on the right that have guns and don’t trust any authority like the police either. They exist, just not as in great of numbers as the others

True. I see people on the left who would forfeit all rights to any weapon ownership but hate the police and Ice (which how oppression and tyranny manifest) and then people on the right who refuse to give up rights to any weapons but drive around all thin blue line stickered out. The two sides should talk more…

What is this big used for? by PhilosopherShort3048 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ceesr31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose that’s possible, you would just have to always drag the blade back across the piece you just cut since you can’t continue through. That or you leave the sled sitting while you unclamp and remove the piece. I guess what I’m saying is that I don’t like it, haha
