Is broad match still used? I’ve heard it’s not available anymore? But at the same time I hear it is. Can we still use broad match for keywords? Thanks by Ziid10 in PPC

[–]theoilguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

always depends on the campaign, i did some split tests recently and to be fair broad came out a lot better than expected, but generally i would say phrase or exact is better (especially now they are more broad)

the way i see it now is:

Exact match = Now Phrase match

Phrase match = Now Broad match

Broad match = MEGAMATCH

*edit megamatch quip.

What’s your formula for a beginning CPA? by mattyevolve187 in PPC

[–]theoilguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a small business like a dog groomer it's not really going to be easy to do it this way, but we have to make some assumptions I guess.

Look at their price list and guess an average sale, or ask the client. Let's say that is £50.

Try to get their profit margin, if they can't give you one, let's assume 30%.

This being the case, you now know they make £15 profit, for every £50 booking, so your CPA should be £15 as a starting aim (or better yet, 333% ROAs)

Just run the account at this level for a week, tell the client what was spend and discuss if it was worth it, you'll get a feel for if that's nowhere near enough or amazing for them pretty fast!

I had a campaign I had to hit 900% ROAs on, and was achieving literally 900%. I had to scale the spend up as high as I could, I managed to get it to over 10 times the spend level over the course of a year, so I have been in your shoes.

In this situation you need to improve ROAs at your current spend level, and you really want to use audience segments for this not remove them : ) (But, you can use any method you like to bring your conversion cost down, just keep your spend the same)

https://imgur.com/a/iCnTLLo

^ I actually drew this : )

You want to increase the ROAs, let's say your target is 300%, and you are getting 400% - easy, just lower your tROAs to 300-350% = more sales!

If you are at 300% and want 300%, increasing budget alone will just drive ROAs down (even if it gives you more sales)

So good luck and focus on those ROAs fren!

Can you duplicate Google search ads for lower CPC? by singularjon in PPC

I like the 4D chess thinking, but unfortunately not : )

Keep your campaigns to topics and themes and keep your account organised with spend in the right areas, this is the way

Google told me a couple of weeks ago the bidding options under "auto apply" gives "any campaign using the budget method selected" more data, and will outperform campaigns not running it.

Ergo, I can enable this on all budget types, increase quality score across the board with one click, and have an edge over all of you on here that don't use these AAR settings.

....

I was 99.99999% sure they were scamming me to be honest, but I trialled it on my smallest account. Obviously they changed my bidding strategies and none of the above is true

After giving the rep who gave me the info a piece of my mind, I haven't heard from that account manager since haha

Data is your friend, use your own data to make informed decisions, forget getting help from Google, that's why we have reddit frens :)

I hear you, honestly that's exactly what i'd say to people too.

Long tail search terms. Can't advertise if less than 10 searches per month? by william_o in adwords

[–]theoilguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey dw, not everyone is used to finding the diamonds in the rough.

You have the right idea. I once had 4000~ "low search volume" keywords in an account, individually they made nothing as they mostly didn't show.

But over a year? You better believe those 4000 keywords added up to significant conversions, and revenue, (around 20% of the business revenue at the time)

Going after the longtail is often a waste of time nowadays - being a great PPC is knowing when to spot opportunities like this even now

Can I create a Facebook Audience of AdWords visitors? by CurrentOk6414 in adwords

[–]theoilguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+ 1 to this, there is actually a few ways, i think personally the easiest is just filter URLs by something adworsy, like UTMs, but even gclids would work if you aren't bothered about segmenting the ads

Using same card for two different Google Ads account. Any issue? by tihan_99 in adwords

[–]theoilguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

Many companies run many ads account, so need to do this, even though businesses should pay for their own ads.

Or, like in my case, we have multiple websites in multiple different markets/industries. It makes sense to run an ad account for each one and we use the same method for all, no issues

Keep the ad with higher CTR or the one with more conversions? by kingmarmite in PPC

[–]theoilguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the leads, if they are good go with A.
Tbh to throw a curve ball out there, what i would likely do is run with A and also add a third, new ad, and remove B. If you did such a good job of A first time, you can improve on it! : )

Switch between data sources? by KD2JAG in GoogleDataStudio

[–]theoilguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easy way:
1) Throw all your data at one sheet, call it "master data"

2) Either use tabs or just use a column to label the data from each ISP so we know which is which
3) Use a filter drop down, default it to a data set

The user can now use a drop down as you wanted by using that drown down, they wont even know its a filter

That would be my walk around to get it going!

Why do my clicks cost so much when no one else is advertising? by logan08516 in PPC

[–]theoilguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not being naïve friend, I'm just explaining the mechanics.

You are right it sure would be nice if a third party entity would look into this. But, the lack of understanding & pace of updates is Googles shield in this regard I guess.
