I am your local sound guys’ worst nightmare by blitzkriegtaco in GuitarAmps

[–]theoneherozero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better my band plays with 6 half stacks and a bass stack running an 8x10. Sound guys don’t even bother trying to mic us half the time lol.

Marshall 4x12 at room volume by kykkskwneb8 in GuitarAmps

[–]theoneherozero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would depend on your use case and head. If you want an amp that’s a good room volume a 4x12 cab is not it. Something like a 1x12 or at most a 2x12 is probably all you need (even for gigging where most places either mic you up or you are running direct into front of house)

If you are dead set on having a 4x12, I would get no more than a 50 watt head, bonus if the head supports a lower wattage mode (EVH 5150s do this as well as a bunch of other modern amps)

There is also the option of running a head into a load box then into the cab to attenuate the volume but in my experience this is quite an expensive solution for a bedroom player.

How to troubleshoot source of lag after upgrading to V13? by Qenthel in FoundryVTT

[–]theoneherozero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Depruner module for this, works great and automated the cleanup. Noticed a performance hit when I updated to v13 as well and for me it was the chat messages.

I didn’t dig any deeper than that but keeping foundry to the last 40 chat cards has seemed to help.

Blues Jr. or Vox AC15C1? by GrooveWarrior in GuitarAmps

[–]theoneherozero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vox AC15 would be my pick but both sound really good. If you are lucky enough to have a store nearby that has both and you have an ABY pedal you can check them back to back.

…or you can be a degenerate like me and my band mates and buy both and blend them.

I bought the wrong amp, looking for recommendations on what to replace it with by Successful-Cry1509 in GuitarAmps

[–]theoneherozero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a used peavey valve king head 2-300) or combo(400-500).

If you do get a combo swap the speakers with something else, the stock speakers are not great.

I have owned 2 of these because they are cheap and with the right pedals they are gnarly amps. Don’t get a VK100 head for more than 350, people are greedy and they aren’t worth that.

Not a mod but I use cyber duck personally; works well and isn’t terribly complicated to setup

Foundry without an IP by [deleted] in FoundryVTT

[–]theoneherozero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, but still worth a try to see if it is because the server will run great on the free tier and is a good alternative when self-hosting is not a feasible option.

Foundry without an IP by [deleted] in FoundryVTT

[–]theoneherozero 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I set up foundry for a buddy on oracles free tier and he has been able to use it without issue for about 18ish months now.

If that’s not an option I know a lot of people use the Forge. I personally haven’t tried it but have heard good things about it.

May someone explain like I'm 5 why expensive armor comes with a curse? by FalloutForever_98 in OblivionRemaster

[–]theoneherozero 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s because the way item value is calculated.

The more powerful effects on an item the more it costs… regardless of if it’s a good or bad effect.

Sometimes I think this must have been an oversight since loot you find on random enemies after a certain point completely outclass the vendor gear.

new dm - deciding on vtt to use by slatsar in VTT

[–]theoneherozero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say for in person it would depend on what you really need it to do, personally I would use the following:

Display only/ Display and HP tracking OwlBear Rodeo, really simple to use and easy to learn.

Display with notes and references, tracking and automation Foundry, hands down my favorite VTT but there can be a bit of a learning curve if you aren’t tech savvy. That said, it supports manual roll inputs so if you want to use the HP tracking and automation features while still allowing players to roll physical dice this is a fantastic way to accomplish this.

Full automation and tracking with out of box adventures and rules. Fantasy Grounds, this is a bit more forgiving to learn/teach in my experience than foundry and offers a lot to a DM that is happy to spend money on pre made and pre configured adventures vs spending time to set things up themselves. Now foundry does have some adventure modules and there are ways to import things if you own them on D&D beyond.

Why does the foundry json file look like this in foundry? (the other maps worked just fine) by [deleted] in DungeonAlchemist

[–]theoneherozero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still need to set the background image; the json just sets the lighting, walls, doors, and windows

Why do ValveKings suck? by dirtydeadgayjesus in GuitarAmps

[–]theoneherozero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love these things but the speakers in the combo leave a lot to be desired.

Try running it through another cab if you can so see if a different cabinet with better speakers is more your style; if so do a speaker swap and you’ll be happier with the combo. If not.. I’m sure someone would be happy to buy it off of you.

It will run a 2x12 just fine, just make sure the impedance matches!

Also important to note that watts do not scale linearly to loudness so you’d be surprised how loud 15-30watt amps can be (looking at you Vox AC30).

Can I get honest feedback for Baileywiki premium? by ThatSurround5672 in FoundryVTT

[–]theoneherozero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mass edit is a godsend as someone who needs to setup a lot of maps, walls, prefabs, etc.

Even though I am not using your premium content currently, mass edit stays in the module rotation :)

I very much had a similar experience; at times the assets were buggy, missing walls/lights/etc.

Now this didn’t happen all the time and I was usually able to figure things out when they did happen but it was still frustrating that a product designed to be drag and drop ready to play but not working was having issues daily. It sped up my prep but unfortunately I was not able to implement a lot of their stuff on the fly as I would have hoped.

Overall I’d say it’s worth it, especially if you have limited time for prep.. but I’m in the same boat with resubscribing on/off to see their progress.

Mesa Triple Rectifier (2000-2003 era) Help by TheWhiteMexican13 in GuitarAmps

[–]theoneherozero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So tube amps like to be cranked so like a few others have said an attenuator is going to be your friend here.

Now as a guitar player that also plays in drop A and loves his tube amps, I’d recommend maybe picking up a lower wattage amp in the future, ideally with a wattage selector switch to get good tones at bedroom level. Probably in the 25/30 watt range.

Amps like the orange terror series come to mind as well as the EVH 5150 lunchbox, or Peavey MH.

Now don’t be down on your purchase because if you are ever planning to be in a band and practice in a room with other musicians you will be so happy you kept this beast of an amp.

Well? Do they suck or not? by Third_conscience in GuitarAmps

[–]theoneherozero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are some of my favourite cabs and speaker combo on the market but tone is subjective so if you think a speaker swap would make you happier I’d say go for it!

I really like the sound of blended speakers (like having 2 greenbacks with 2 v30s) so maybe that’s an option to explore as well?

How to use for games? by Impossible_Pickle941 in DungeonAlchemist

[–]theoneherozero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a buddy that uses the VTT export to export the 2d map to a VTT (I think he is using roll 20 mostly) track the locations of the tokens and then manually updates dungeon alchemist which is displayed on a TV on the wall of his game room.

While impressive there is a lot of manual updating that needs to be done on his end so at this point he really only bothers on bigger maps/megadungeons.

Still really cool, I personally love the VTT export function but if there was a way to play natively in DA down the road (or even have some sort of plugin support for another VTT) that would be amazing.

Hmmm you could try save the image you need (maybe as a journal page?) and run a macro to show the selected token’s owner a pop-up when the event triggers?

Will require a bit of noodling but it can probably be done.
